HP dv6-1230US ethernet problem

So I just upgraded my dv6-1230us to windows 7 and now the Ethernet cable doesn't work. I've tried many ports that are working for other devices including my XBOX. Is there a driver or something that I can download to fix this? Thanks!

Re: HP dv6-1230US ethernet problem

Hi,

If you haven't done so already, download and install the Chipset driver on the link below.

Chipset Driver - Windows 7

After this installation has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has fully reloaded, download in install the ethernet driver on the following link.

Realtek PCIe Driver - Windows 7

Re: HP dv6-1230US ethernet problem

Hi,

Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Network Adapters - do you see an entry for Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller?  If you do, right click the device and select Properties.  On the general tab, is there any error code showing in the 'Device status' box?

Re: HP dv6-1230US ethernet problem

According to the device service box, it is working properly, but when I plug in an ethernet cable it says there is no internet access.

Re: HP dv6-1230US ethernet problem

Hi,

Try the following.

Unplug the ethernet cable from the notebook.  Go back into Device Manager, open up Network Adapters, right click the entry for Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and select Uninstall - you should also receive a prompt to delete the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstallation.

When this has completed, restart the notebook and let Windows reinstall the hardware.  Leave it to idle for a couple of minutes and then try the ethernet connection again.

Regards,
