I cant connect to the internet

Hello i have a hp pavilion ze4500 laptop PC with windows XP operating system i recently bought a belkin wireless adapter i installed the software and drivers, the belkin adapter shows my network id and is connected however i keep getting the message connection has limited to no connectivity . I even plugged an ethernet cable direct into the laptop and router to connect to the internet still nothing> I've tried resetting to modem/router amongst other trouble shooting ideas and again nothing. DOes anyone have any suggestions. Please help
