Hello all,
Quick question about wireless cards in an HP Folio 13!
I was thinking about buying this computer, and wondered if it's possible to install an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 in place of the card that's already in it. I've been seeing things about HP not letting you use certain cards, and just wondered if this card would work?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response.
I found another post in the forum about this card, but with a different laptop.
Link to manual from post in question: http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/S
Here's the curious thing:
The part number on the 6230 in the link above is the same as the part number for the 1030 in the Folio's manual.
What does this imply? ![]()
EDIT: Fix link

As I type I am on phone with HP Support. turns out product number 631956-001 is identified as for Intel Centrino 6230 in the HP Maintenance and Service Guide for the laptop I have, BUT this part number is actual for the Intel wireless n 1030 card.
I ordered 2 cards of 631956-001 with tech support help, becauase I wanted wireless n 5GHZ BUT HP sent me Intel 1030 card, which is no better than what I had. SO it seems HP has the same part number related to different wireless cards. Now I need to send back what I received and HP support guy is so confused and can barely speak english.
He is saying to go buy the part from a local store. I told him some postings on support pages say the HP BIOS restricts to certain cards. he said he never heard about that.
Don't know what to believe.

I had the same problem. The maintance guide has the wrong part number for the Advanced N-6230, I had to return that part. I did order 636672-001 from HP which is the right part number for the 6230. Now my system will not boot with the 6230 installed. I have a DV7 Quad NB. Guess the System ROM for the notebook needs to be updated?

Hi, I just got the Folio 13 1020US last week and bummed it does not have the Intel WLAN card. How hard is it to install? Not sure where it is loacated? My machine just did a BIOS update on Saturday. I want to get the 6230 but am afraid it will not work. HP support is, well less than supportive for sure. I get the well you should have bought the other model that is like your model but different. Then they say just go buy any card you want and do it yourself. Great! Thanks for all the help! Geez when do I get to be the customer? Should have just got the Toshiba and paid more and less aggravation!
