Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN connection problem

i have Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN wifi adapter with bluetooth. the problem i am experincing is that it doesnt not connect to old routers like 3com officeconnect routers yet it connects to newer ones seamlesly. does anyone has an explataion for this. note that other notebooks connect to both routers seamleasly.
