I have the problem with my wireless card not working that many people on this site have described. I have been in touch with HP support and they agree that they will repair the laptop but told me to take it back to the shop where I bought it (PC World in the UK) which I did but the shop says I need to use the Recovery Disc I created when the laptop was new before they will send it away for repair. They confirmed that this would mean I would lose all the programs I have loaded. This sounds strange to me so I have emailed HP support again asking if this is necessary but they haven't answered. I have backed up my data just in case something goes wrong while it is away. Does anyone know if it is necessary to use the Recovery Disc before this repair is carried out?

They do that to rule out a software issue as the source of the problem. The factory software load is a common baseline to test against. Standard procedure, I am afraid.
