I frequently lose connection to the internet from my Pavillion dv6 running Windows 7 64 bit. The troubleshooter invariably fixes the problem by restting the wireless network adapter. This does not happen on the other 3 computers on the same home network (2 Macs and a HP) and there is nothing wrong with the wireless router when the dv6 has this problem.
How can I stop it recurring?

Hi:
What model wireless adapter do you have installed in your notebook?
Maybe a driver update will help.

Thank you for your comment Paul. I have Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030 with driver ver 14.2.0.10 and the attempted update told me that it was already up to date.

I have the same problem. I also have the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030. it is really annoying. At first I thought it was my ISP and their supplied modem/router, but after 2 visits, it is obviously not the problem. I also have slow download/uploads sppeds when i connect through this wireless adaptor. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:
I have posted the link to the latest drivers for W7 64 bit. (2nd download). v 15.1.0 of 4/8/12
Try those and see if there is improvement.
Additionally, please see the link below for the typical Intel card's advanced settings which you can tweak if you want.
http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-0
My suggestions if you have these settings:
WMM Enabled (Default)
Roaming Aggressiveness = Lowest
Transmit Power = Highest (Default)
The card will disable and re-connect.
Then restart your PC.
Also, if none of the above works, go into your router's configuration menu and change the broacast channel from Auto or 6 (as applicable) to 1 or 11 and see if that helps.
If there are several other wireless networks in your neighborhood, and they are all set on the default channel, this can cause interference.

Thanks Paul. I installed the new driver and there is an improvement in speed. I will monitor the other issue as well over the week, but I have a feeling this was the answer.
Seeing that HP support Assistant did not catch that my wireless adaptor driver was 2 versions older than the recent update, I may have to go through all my devices and manually update them. Thanks again.

Thank you for your help Paul and I; happy that it seemed to have helped ruthies daughter. My last (hopefully) contribution on this issue:
My HP laptop and set up is new (a month or so) and had been "misbehaving" since I started. My son thought that there was too much wireless software and perhaps the various programmes were interacting in a non-useful manner. He deleted all of the HP and Intel wireless programs which left Windows as the sole controller of wireless access. He deleted the wireless network then reconnected it and (crossed fingers) I've had no issue since which is now 4 days and if this is a coincidence that is a record time without an issue that was occurring at least twice per day before the "fix".
Once more thank you for your help and hopefully my experience can help someone else.
Regards

Hi, Rob:
Thank you for your input.
I will incorporate that into any guidance I provide in the future regarding Intel wireless connection issues.
Since my familiarity lies with HP business desktops and notebooks, I am used to those machines coming with a limited amount of software installed, and therefore, I rarely encounter issues which are solved by removing software which presumably should work.
However, since the advent of windows XP, I really see no need to install wireless client software when windows is perfectly able to manage a wireless connection.
I guess that sometimes the manufacturer's wireless software conflicts with the windows software, which creates issues.
Thank you once again for your contribution.
Kudos to you.
Best regards,
Paul
