I have an HP Compaq Presario A900 Notebook PC with Serial Number: 3CE82317CH and Product Number: FE799UAR which I have had for a little over two years now.
OS on it is Windows Vista Home Premium SP2,
Internet Browser on it is IE8.
I initially had a Huawei SmartAX MT882a ASDL (Broadband) modem supplied by my ISP, Vodafone, by which I did my internet browsing until a couple of months ago (10/20/2011) when I obtained their upgraded Broadband Wireless Router - EchoLife HG520c. My ISP technicians spent a considerable time configuring the system only succeeding in having this notebook connected to the internet through the supplied cable. Internet connection by wireless on this notebook has been fruitless, even though it connects to the router but not beyond that (See snapshot here:
What gives me more concern is that I also had another notebook (Sony Vaio) with Windows 7 Home Premium which immediately connected to the internet when it was turned on. Not only that; I recently acquired a DELL OptiPlex 780 Desktop with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit Operating System which also readily connected to the router and the internet.
So, whatever is wrong with the Compaq Laptop, I do not know and would like someone to assist me in resolving this problem.
Many thanks

Hi,
I can't see the screenshot you've uploaded yet until it has been approved by a moderator, but try the following.
Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f8 as you start up to access Windows Recovery Console. Use the arrow keys to select 'Safe Mode with Networking' and hit enter. Let windows fully load in this mode and see if you can now access the internet - only choose a known 'safe site' such a Microsoft or HP as your security software will not be running while in this mode. To exit Safe Mode, simply restart the notebook in the usual way and Windows will start normally.
Let me know the result.
Also, from the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'. In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
ipconfig /all ( Note that there is a space between ipcofig and the / ).
Copy and paste the results into Notepad and then copy and paste these details with your next post.
Regards,
DP-K

Hi,
It may be an idea to set up a Static IP address to see if this will allow you to connect.
Open windows Control Panel and open Network and Sharing Centre. Click Manage Network Connections and in the following window, right click your wireless connection and select Properties. Left click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to highlight it ( click on the wording and not the box with the tick ) then click the Properties button. Click the radio button next to 'Use the following IP Address and then enter the following values.
IP Address 192.168.1.120
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
Also, assign the following DNS Server Addresses
Preferred DNS Server 208.67.222.222 ( These belong to OpenDNS )
Alternate DNS Server 208.67.220.220
After entering these values, remember to click OK to each open Window, before restarting the notebook.

DP-K

Thanks once again DP-K. I still could not get anywhere with your valuable suggestions. You may see the snapshot here: http://gedochin.com/Wireless%20Network.jpg.
One other info I forgot to include in my original post was that I have an UBUNTU Operating System installed on the same laptop and that has no problem connecting to the internet through the same wireless router which could ten means that problem is with Windows Vista (my own assumptions).
Where do we go from here?

Hi,
Open windows Control Panel. open Network and Sharing Centre and click 'Manage network connections'. Right click your wireless connection and select Properties. Remove the tick from the box next to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), then click OK and close all open windows.
Restart the notebook and let me know if this has made any difference.

Hi,
You're welcome and there are still plenty of options to try if you wish to ![]()
Can you let me know the security software you have on the Windows installation.
Also, try downloading and reinstalling the WLAN driver on the link below.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp3940
After the reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

Hi,
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Network Adapters. Right click on the wireless adapter and select Uninstall - do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart the notebook and let windows fully load. Is there any change?
