My HP shows it is connected to new router, but won't connect to internet. How do I fix it?

Hi. I hope i'm allowed to post here. I have an older laptop- HP Pavillion dv7, operating system- Windows Vista-Service Pack 1- 32 bit  and I never had any problems with connecting to the internet. Since I switched from viewsonic to NETGEAR, it won't work for anything. I've tried downloading the new drivers, directly connecting to the router, everything else and still nothing. It connects successfully but if I try to open a browser, it automatically says 'Webpage cannot display'. Is it a software problem that I can't solve? Thanks so much.

Hi, Paul. Thanks so much for answering. For my WiFi it's Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g. I hope that's correct.

Did you install this driver from September 2011 for it?

Please go back to the device manager and under network adapters, click on the Atheros 5007 card.

Then click on the driver tab.

Does it show the latest driver from 2011 installed?

Sometimes the file runs but the old driver is still there.

When that happens you need to uninstall the old driver and then reinstall the new one.

Yes, that would be the latest driver.

That should have allowed your wireless card to connect to a newer router and give you access to the internet.

I would have to assume you have all of the wireless settings right, or the card wouldn't connect at all.

Unfortunately, I don't know why your Internet Explorer won't work.

You may want to start a new thread and copy and paste your post there so others can see it.

Maybe someone else has some ideas, I am not aware of.
