Hi,
Is it the wireless or wired network controller?
You can determine that by going into the device manager.
In the Search programs and files box type device manager and then click on the device manager icon in the control panel section that appears above.
You will need to find out which manufacturer it is for the missing network controller. You should be able to see that as in the image I posted.
Here is a link to where the drivers are for your notebook's operating system on the HP web support portal.

Is your wireless turned on?
Is the wireless led lit?

Great!
If the color is white or light blue then the wireless network adapter is enabled.
This means that your LAN network adapter device does not have its driver loaded.
You can download the driver from here.
There are three different manufacturers and therefore three drivers.
If you go back to the device manager and select the device with the missing driver and then select the details tab and then use the drop down arrow to show the hardward ids then I can tell you which one you need. I will show you in your own image from your Device manager where you can show that information. Once you do that post the image here.
This image is from my desktop PC but it shows what I need to see.
