I am also looking for Ethernet Driver for my dv9728cl; NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, too. I tried clicking on the link in your post , but it didn't work. Could you please provide me with the link? I replaced my hard drive & did a clean install of Win7 Ultimate 32bit, but I haven't been able to connect hard-wired since I upgraded to Win7. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

I was just reading your post and unfortunately HP does not have windows 7 drivers for the dv9728cl network adapter. This model laptop was designed for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 2000. You could try the Vista or XP drivers and you may get lucky but there is no guarantee
For the Compaq see if this link has the answers to your questions....

Please install this chipset driver which should also install the network driver.
If you are looking for more than the network driver which is the title of the post then please read the XP downgrade guide at the link below. The guide instructions for your model can be found under the section lableled Moderate Models.
