New Pavilion DV6 notebook problems detecting wireless printer. Please help!!

I have just purchased a new HP Pavilion dv6-6156 and am busy setting everything up.  However it just doesn't seem to be able to detect my existing Canon Pixma MP640 printer on the network.  I know there is no problem with the printer - it is on and definitely connected to the network, the wi-fi light is on and my old laptop and desktop still print fine.  The laptop is also connected to the wi-fi fine, and it even detects the printer as a "computer" in the list of networked machines, but it will not detect it as a printer at all during setup.

I tried to install it using the HP setup manager without success, so I then tried to install it with the original disc and software that came with the printer, but to no avail either.  I then thought perhaps it was because my new laptop is running Windows 7 64-bit (as opposed to Vista on my other machines), so I've been onto Canon and downloaded (I think) the correct driver, but this still hasn't worked.  Canon and HP Support seem to want to pass me from one to the other and I really don't know how else to resolve this issue short of plugging it in via a USB!!!

I hope someone can give me some advice - I don't know if there is an obvious reason behind this, I've searched the internet for any common problems but other than the obvious need for the correct driver I haven't come across any answers.  Please help if you can!!! Thanks  :smileyhappy:
