Not able to connect to the internet

[ Edited ]

I've had my Pavilion dv7 4020SA for about 7 months, and this is the second time that it's refused to connect to the internet. When it first happened i took it back to PC world and the problem seemed to be solved, but now it's obviously back. This time it seems to be different though. The first time it was apparently due to corrupted software, but now it apparently may be due to an update or my internet security. The day that the internet stopped working i made some updates to my computer that were apparently 'important' and restarted. When i turned my computer back on the internet appeared to be working at first glance, but when i clicked to go onto the internet a little yellow exclamation mark came up where it shows connectivity and said that there was no internet access. This cannot be true because the signal was at full.. and my netbook is connecting fine, thankfully. I rang up tech guys and they suggested uninstalling and reinstalling my internet security, webroot. However, to reinstall it i need the internet so this cannot be done, as i have no other internet security on my computer. I'm sick of this computer and would appreciate it if someone could help me? Please? I'll be forever grateful.

Re: Internet problem Pavilion dv7

Hi,

Shutdown the notebook. Tap away at f8 as youstart up to access Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select 'Safe Mode with Networking' and hit enter.  Let windows fully load in this mode and see if you can now access the internet - only choose a known 'safe site' such a Microsoft or HP as your security software will not be running while in this mode.  To exit Safe Mode, simply restart the notebook in the usual way and Windows will start normally.

Let me know the result.

Regards,

Re: Internet problem Pavilion dv7

Hi,

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  Into the prompt, type the following commands, hitting enter after each command.  Include spaces in the commands where shown.

ipconfig /flushdns

nbtstat -R

nbtstat -RR

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

netsh winsock reset

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

When complete, type exit and hit enter, then restart the notebook and check connectivity.

Regards,

Re: Internet problem Pavilion dv7

Hi,

Another thing to check is that Windows Updates has not recently installed an updates driver that doesn't work well with the WLAN.

Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, open up Network Adapters, right click your wireless card and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and see if the 'Roll Back Driver' option is available ( if it isn't, this option will be greyed-out ).  If it is available, click the option and when the process has completed, restart the notebook and see if this has helped.

Regards,

Re: Internet problem Pavilion dv7

Hi,

In Device Manager, what is the name of the wireless device listed there?

What version of Windows are you using ( ie Windows 7 32bit )?
