Re: Pavillion dv9000 Wireless is no longer and light stays orange

Definitely to check if its a hardware failure you got to :

1. check the device manager (network adapters) for the wireless driver.

2. check the IP Address (Valid/Invalid/Error message)

3. try with system restore.

4. try to update the driver from the website with wired connection.

5. before system recovery (factory default) you also could try reseating the wireless module if you are comfortable.

6. last option is try system recovery for the hardware or the software cause isolation.

Re: Pavillion dv9000 Wireless is no longer and light stays orange

When I look for the wireless driver, I can't find one that's only for the wireless. When this problem first started, I went to uninstall and then reinstall the wireless driver, but when I uninstalled the only driver under network adapters, I couldn't reconnect to the internet at all, even with an Ethernet cord. So I did a system restore to a day that was before I had these wireless issues (to return the driver I had uninstalled and to hopefully fix the wireless issue), but my laptop said that the system restore failed, however, when the laptop turned back on, there was a pop up that said the system restore was successful.

Also, I'm not sure if this might be any clue to what the problem is, but I tried to use my parents' USB wireless adaptor on my laptop, but I got an error saying that the drivers failed to install.

I'll try some of the other things you mentioned.

What exactly is "reseating the wireless module"?

Also, I can't update my driver on the hp website because they don't have drivers for a Pavillion dv9000 with Windows 7.

How do I check the IP address?

Re: Pavillion dv9000 Wireless is no longer and light stays orange

reseating the wireless module is to remove the wireless card in the computer and put it back in.. due to loose connections on the wireless module you may not be able to connect to the internet.

its complicated though.. if you are comfortable removing the wireless module you got to have a philips head screwdriver that's it.

you can reinstall the driver from the Recovery Manager - Hardware Driver reinstallation.

to check the IP address: Click Start menu - in the search field type CMD - in the search results right click on CMD and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR - in the command prompt type IPCONFIG - and search for wireless LAN adapater and check the IP address or IPV4 address. if its 192 its valid if you get error: MEDIA DISCONNECTED its the wireless card not connected or not working.

I do not have a Recovery Manager. Is there a way to dowload it?

I can't find anything for my wireless LAN adapter. I see the Ethernet one though, so I'm pretty sure that I searched for it correctly.

Re: Pavillion dv9000 Wireless is no longer and light stays orange

I'm going to try to download the recovery manager that hp has on it's website. My brother bought a used pavillion dv9000 with windows 7 from the same guy I got mine from, and his has a recovery manager, so we have no idea why mine doesn't.

I don't have access to a screwdriver at the moment. However, can you explain to me how I reseat the wLANmodule is good detail? I've never even opened up a laptop before, so this will all be really new to me, but I'm willing to give it a try as long as the risks are miminal.

Re: Pavillion dv9000 Wireless is no longer and light stays orange

of course if you are comfortable you will be able to reseat the wireless lan module.

might be possible about the recovery manager it might be deleted by the previous user.

and if you dont have recovery manager to reinstall the drivers or the software or even to reinstall the OS you will need the backup discs.

ok about the wireless module:

1. remove the charger / power cord

2. take the battery out

3. unplug all the external devices to the unit (laptop)

4. flip the notebook upside down.

5. at the bottom there are differnet small compartments.

6. one small compartment has vents on it and it has two screws to remove the covery.

7. wireless lan module has two cable attached to it.

8. black and white colored cables.

9. remove the cables connecting to the module (other end connects to the system board)

10. besides the black and white cables there are one screw each.

11. remove the screws the wireless module would pop up and you just take it out.

12. place it back the same way and make sure you connect the cables properly.

13. put the cover back on and one more important thing before you connect the power cord and put the battery.

14. hold the power button without the battery and charger for 30 secs to drain the static power in the system board.

15. while you start the computer back on immediately start tapping F10 to load in BIOS

16. set the BIOS default with F9 and save changes with F10.

and check for the wifi light on the keyboard

Re: Pavillion dv9000 Wireless is no longer and light stays orange

Same problem last night.

After hours of research, it appears HP had a recall from 2008-2010 of dv6000 and dv9000 series for the same problem.  First Wireless goes out,  for others the hinge breaks then screen goes blank, then eventually it will not boot up. Problem was with AMD chips that overheated.  HP fix was to replace the motherboard.  Mine laptop was purchased in 2007 or 2008, but did not break until last night..

I will try to convince HP to cover my notebook , but from the many forums, they  now refuse, since their extended enhanced warranty program finished.

I also tried the BIOS, driver and all other upgrades without success.

Cheapest Solution is to buy a mini USB wireless adapter for about $30 and use that until  the laptop dies.

Other website indicates that the GPU reball (removal of chips and resolder or clean ) will fix the problem. but it seems too complicated for a chip set that will die anyway.

* tip:  offload  or replicate and store your documents and pics to an external hard drive, so you will not lose your data.

Good Luck.
