Presario V6560EA and WPA

[ Edited ]

HelloAny help here much appreciated.

I have a Presario V6560EA Notebook that I don't seem to be able to configure for a WPA wireless connection.

In the drop down to select encryption type, only WEp is suppoorted and I really NEED this PC to connect to a WPA.

Does anyone know if this model's adaptor supports WPA or can be enabled to do so?

I don't see any relevence in the the downloads.

Many thanks.

Re: Presario V6560EA and WPA

Your laptop has the Intel Pro wireless 3945abg chip for wireless connectivity. I was perusing the information  available at the Intel site and came across something that may help you. This hyperlink will take you to how to manually set up a network connection with WPA. The chip does support WPA.

Many thanks for your replay erico.

I may need an update then..

Does WPA2-Personal (AES) mean the same thing as just WPA?

Sorry, I'm a bit rough on networking..

Kudos to you anyway fella :smileyhappy:

WPA2 is a newer version of WPA. It is backwardly compatible with WPA. here is a link to a reasonably eay to understand explanation of the differences between a number of wireless security encryption protocols. Enjoy the article.

I use WPA-PSK [TKIP] in my home network.  Some routers and wireless network adapters work better with specific security schemes and not well with others. It depends on your router and your wireless NIC. You can find the best information about brand specific routers at the manufacturer's wireless forums. I frequent the Netgear and Linksys forums to determine the best usage of my own wireless networking devices.
