Problem with opening internet browser window

Dear all,

I am using hp pavilion dv 6500 entertainment pc notebook. I can open a mozila browse window 3 days ago, and since last day I couldn't open that. then even I have installed safari browse on in but even though I couldn't open the internet browse window. Internet explorer was not working on it since a month ago. The funny thing is I can connect to internet and chat with YM, MSN and Gtalk. The main problem with My PC is when I clicked any internet browse, it says that "connection failed". I really don't know what the problem is? Please help me in this regard so that I could open any internet browsers.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,

Re: Problem with opening internet browser window

If you can use YM, MSN and Gtalk, then it likely not your internet connection that is having problems. Most likely, the connection settings in the browser is messed up, which could be a sign of virus infection or malacious software.

Try open a locally stored web page - any web page you saved previously or just create a HTML file. If your browser (mosila etc.) can open local files, then check the brower "connection", home page, security settings, etc. If it doesn't even open local html pages, run virus check and reinstall the browser.

Re: Problem with opening internet browser window

yeah that's right, its not your internet connection,

-try to use this command

-start > cmd > right click choose > run as administrator > type "ipconfig /flushdns" enter

-restart your NB

-if your using vista - try to reinstall your operating system

Hello BARUN,

To "uninstall vista and install windows xp" you will need to purchase a retail WinXP disk and boot from that disk,

from there you need to delete the "C:" partition, and recreate it and format it then install windows on it, once that is done you will need to locate all the drivers for your computer, may require hours/days of searching search engines/internet forums/driver sites/etc ...simple enough, thats if you dont run into problems with the SATA drivers .. :smileyindifferent:

****EDIT****

Now, onto the issue you are experiencing,

1. open IE, click on TOOLS, click INTERNET OPTIONS, click CONNECTIONS, click LAN SETTINGS, make sure there is no proxy server set up, make sure not boxes are checked, then click OK, and click on ADVANCED, and click on RESET and then click on RESET again on the second little box that appears ... close IE, reopen it and see if that works.

2. restart the computer, tap F8, go into Safe Mode with Networking, and try connecting, if you can access it in there then it may be Security Software related .. (check for multiple security software programs, firewalls/antivirus/etc...) ... Check firewall program settings ... make sure port 80 is not blocked (happens mainly when Norton(Security Software) expires) ... if that program is there and it is expired .. you will need to run the http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 (choose the version that is on your computer)

3. click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, Right Click on Command Prompt, choose Run as Administrator ... type "netsh winsock reset catalog" and "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt", restart the computer, try connecting

Re: Problem with opening internet browser window

Dear All,
Thanx for all suggestions. Still I couldn't fixed up my problems. Now, even I couldn't open YM, MSN and Gtalk in my laptop.
When I used same cable to my desktop PC everything works, May be I have to visit maintenance centre.

Once again thank you all.

Cheers,
