Re: Problems with pavilion tx1000's wireless

I have the same issue with the vanishing WLAN card - am using a USB now but am disappointed b/c I paid for the WLAN card which is not field replaceable :smileysad: I am also using a chill pad - again not great for portability. I am just a few months out of warranty and getting nothing so far from HP - well, except they were happy to take $100 to chat with me for a few hours!

Everything is updated - BIOS, drivers, etc.

The video card is starting to go now - no screen upon boot - the chill mat seems to help though.

Grrrrr....

Re: Problems with pavilion tx1000's wireless

Hey group,

My tx1000 just started having this problem.  It is 3 months over of its 1-year warranty.  When I called HP customer service they told me they were unaware of this problem and then of course they wanted to charge me for talking to them on the phone.  I updated the LAN driver and am wondering if I should update the BIOS also.  From what I have read, though, it doesn't seem to make a difference what you do.

I feel frustrated that I spent over $1000 on a very short-lived piece of equipment.

Any advice?

Thanks so much.

Re: Problems with pavilion tx1000's wireless

I have faced the same problem and have been struggling since more than a month now.

When I spoke to the Complaints team, the concerned executive said that they don't have the "threshold no. of calls" to declare this as a manufacturing issue and neither he was able to clarify how many complaint calls they expect before such a decision is taken.

This is really very strange to see such an unfriendly and unprofessional attitude of HP!!!!!!

So, I would request everybody facing this probelm to DIRECTLY call this COMPLAINTS NO. AND REGISTER YOUR COMPLAIN IF YOU ARE IN UNITED KINGDOM. The no. is 0191 4935307.

[ Edited ]

HP should provide a warranty enhancement for the TX1000 due to its wireless adapter malfunction, as it has already done for dv2000/dv600/dv9000 series.  Additionally, a HP representative should reply to this thread.

This is systemic problem in the Pavilion series (for example, see: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Berlind/?p=853 and http://blogs.zdnet.com/Berlind/?p=863).  Numerous other posts have already been made on the HP forum regarding this issue in the TX1000 (for example, see: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1243630153819+28353475&threadId=1245147 or http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1243627459214+28353475&threadId=1254543).

When I phoned HP tech support, they told me they were not aware of a systemic problem with the Pavilion wireless adapters.  That is unbelievable, particularly given the posts in this forum and the earlier problems in the Pavilion line (see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277 which discusses the warranty enhancement for other Pavilion models with this same problem).  Because my 1-year warranty expired 4-months ago, the HP reps told me it would cost between $40-100 to discuss the problem with them.  The free on-line tech support was no help.  I have done all of the basic tricks (e.g., updating drivers and BIOS), to no avail--the Device Manager still does not recognize my wireless adapter and I cannot connect to the internet.

Maybe if we all work together on this, we can get a better result.

Re: Problems with pavilion tx1000's wireless

Wow, I had this problem for about ten months now, but now that I actually need to travel with the laptop, I can't do so.  These customer service associates all say the same thing "they are unaware of the problem" damm liars and crooks.  Lets see than stay a float with out satified customers. Why would I pay $400 to fix a laptop?  Thats it for them and me, no more HP products.

Re: Problems with pavilion tx1000's wireless

Do the repair as shown on the Youtube video in the previous post. It worked for me, and it's not that difficult. I did not use the penny, I used a piece of pure copper with is probably better anyway.

Re: Problems with pavilion tx1000's wireless

My daughter just enlisted a couple of computer geniuses at school to help her do the lamp trick and it failed.  I guess it doesn't work for all of them.  They will try mine next...  If it fails, new macbook for her as I already have one...  LOL
