Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

I have a pavillion dv7z laptop computer, and every time i turn it on the Athenos wirelss adapter I mentioned fails with a Code 10 error.  I've tried everything the troubleshooting says, and each time I have to manually hook my computer up to a wired ethernet connection and redownload the same driver for the adapter.  This solves my problem until I turn the computer off and leave it off for more than a few minutes.  I've had the computer for 2 days now (Christmas gift), and the problem started the day I got it right after I turned it on for the second time.

Just wondering if I'll ever get a response.  I've noticed that people who have posted later than myself have recieved responses, and a few admins have been on in the last few days, but I have yet to recieve any replies.

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Hi. I work in a computer shop and I'm working on a comp with the SAME EXACT problem.

HP Pavilion dv7-1133cl with an Atheros AR5009 802.11a/g/n WiFi Adapter

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition

I have a feeling it's a 64-bit issue, but not sure. I reinstall the driver and it works for multiple reboots. But after leaving it off for a while the wireless does not initialize and the light does not turn blue and I get an exclamation mark in the device manager. I havewn't tried too many things yet. I'll see if a BIOS update is available, or perhaps a different driver.

Tom

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

There's a BIOS driver update here on hp's website, but it doesn't fix the problem.  I've called tech support twice, and they've had me reinstall the driver and the BIOS multiple times, but none of the remedies last.  For some reason, I've been able to get it working just by fiddling with the wireless button and manually enabling/disabling the driver.

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

At least i'm not the only one with tihis problem... This code 10 error hapen to me also, every time i turn on my laptop after more then 2-3 hours, i also used online help form hp about 3 times and still nothing... same thing upgrade the drivers and bios reset the Wifi and so on .... Is very frustrating especially after the last tehnician told me that i'm the only one with this problem (means that hp doesn't have a database with all the errors and solutions). Maybe we can help each other cause i lost my faith in HP Help. Did anybody instaled any update from Microsoft since the begining of December before noticeing the error ? Or did anybody did a clean install of Vista and did the error disappear ?

Last but not least why there is no AR5009 on the Atheros product support ? I'm gonna do a clean install hopeing that i will solve this, i will let you know tommorow evening how it's gone !

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

I also am having the same problem WTF. I am going to call Hp tomorrow and demand a new laptop. I find it very strange that Atheros doesnt even list the device on its website.

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

I seem to be having the same problem here - the system claims that the driver is not properly installed (Code 10).  I reinstalled the driver and it worked for a while, but after I closed the computer for a few hours, it was back to its confused state.

It is extremely frustrating to see this in a brand new computer.  I'm going to erase all trace of that driver and try a fresh install.

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Ok i will let you know what it didn't worked from the solution hp online help provided. The completley unninstall the driver and install the updated version from hp. 2 To completley unninstal the driver, update the bios, reset the bios and reinstall the driver. 3 to unninstal the driver shut down the laptop, remove the Atheros wifi from the laptop, turn on the laptop, restart again re-add the Wifi and install the driver. 4 to Load the default values in the bios. All this didn't work so now i'm going to do a clean Vista Install. I have a Hp Pavillion 7 Dv7-1170Eo for the record, hope that the vista install will work !

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Hope that you are right... when i did that i also thought that it worked but after i shutdown the laptop for more then 2-3 hours the problem was back. On another note i did the Vista clean install and i have to say i'm very hopeful because i instaled the Atheros Wifi and it worked whitout a problem, not like the first time when i instaled the drivers when i got a code 10 error. The only diference bettwen now and then is that now i don't have no hp software(quickplay, etc) and i didn't instaled yet... no Windows Updates beside the drivers provided. I will let you guys know how its working all this for me...
