Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Yeap boys and girls i was defeted by this **bleep** Wifi, after i did a clean vista install i still have the same **bleep** problem and i can't figure it out. . The very sad thing is that needer Microsoft, HP or Atheros doesn't do anything about it. I don't want to talk about the fact that i'm dissapointed of the Hp experience i would expected at least a mail with some explenations cause i have this problem since i first turn on my laptop. I paid more for a Hp for quality instead of A**r or something else but they didn't provide it. So in the end i will buy a new Wifi card (not Atheros... never-ever again) on my expence. Thanks for playing Hp !! I will folow this thread just to see what was the problem !

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Check if there's a Broadcom Wireless LAN driver available for your notebook.

If there is (even if the driver is an old version), try it...

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Hey guy.. you are not alone in this mess. I got My (Hp g60 120us) on december and from the moment I put it on.. the wireless button is glowing blue but I can't get any access to my wifi. I have the same Artheros AR5009 card in mines as well. I have been through countless emails with the hp tech concerning this and still no improvement. I went ahead and downgraded to xp and the wireless worked instantaneously but I had to reupgrade back to vista premium  due to compatibility issues with drivers and hardware. Upon reinstalling Vista, I have the same friggin problem. When I go to manage wireless networks, it tells me that my wireless card is not installed but the icon for the wireess connection is right there next to the ethernet connection symbol..it's like the computer is confused. I have the latest bios updates on my laptop plus I reinstalled drivers for the card. When I try to connect to a network, it tells ms that it cannot connect eventhough it recognises that there is an active wireless network. The Hp wireless assistant is a big wate of time too because it tells me that my system does not appear to have an internet connection even though there is one. I have been to forums plus I have been emailed troubleshooting options from the hp support centre and still no progress. I told the Hp agent that I give up and am really pissed and frustrated about this because this Atheros card seems to be a real issue in HP Laptops....am sure Hp could have seen that coming because am sure we are no the only ones complaing about this. They have been using Broadcam for years so what's up with thus Atheros crappy card now. Am really sick and tired of the back and forth Emails. Vista could be the problem too because as i said when I downgraded to xp..it worked fine. I write you because we have a similar problem, If you were to get through with anythingconcering your issue, can yuo holla @ me with the info so Ican troubleshoot and rectify mine as well, I will do the same if I get anything. peace out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Let me join the club.I have a g60 230US - with an Atheros AR 5009 and exactly the same problem. I contacted Atheros - they don't provide drivers for this model. I chatted with HP support but no luck. I disable and enable then uninstall reboot and reinstall the driver then it works until the next reboot.

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Unfortunately, I will have to join this group as well. I bought dv5-1113us with Atheros AR5009 wireless.  On the device manager, it says the device is working properly.  when I connect it to WRT54g wireless router, I can go on internet for a couple of seconds then it says "Limited Connection".  I tried different places like wireless hotspot and friend's house.  The result is the same.  I tried disabling ipv6 and tunneling, but still the same problems.

Another problem I notice is that after disabling AR5009, there is sound and video lag whenever I play video and music  this is my first HP laptop and honestly, I am very disappointed with HP product.  I mean, I am pretty sure Hp research team tested the compatibility issues and still chose to put in this piece of junk.  Or Hp just simply being neglectful.  Well, I am spreading my words around to avoid HP products until they CARE about their Cusomers!!!

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

[ Edited ]
I guess, after reading the other posts in this thread, that I should consider my personal experiences with the Atheros 5009 WiFi card to be lucky as my card works properly at 54Mbit/sec. I recently purchased a dv7-1247cl unit which, sadly, employs the Atheros 5009 card, and noticed in DeviceMangler that the card is listed as an a/b/g/n device. It has not escaped me that this unit was marketed as not having any N-Class abilities, and I accepted the fact that I would need to employ a USB-based N-class adapter to achieve N-class speeds to my N-class router. But I thought I would check out the drivers and support section of HP's site to see if HP/Atheros/Microsoft had gotten around to updating the driver to allow N-class operation. Apparently, no luck as of yet on this issue. Either they (MS/HP/Atheros) know it will not work in a 64-bit environment, or they are (more likely) in the midst of a finger-pointing contest over the engineering/coding responsibility to make this thing work at N-class speeds. As a networking technician of more than twenty years experience, I can assure all of you that if this is the real issue, a solution will most certainly be VERY slow to materialize. Perhaps the resolution to this issue could be speeded up somewhat if one or more of us were to contact legal counsel in regards to a lawsuit on this issue and have the counselor petition for class action status. Lawyers LOVE class action lawsuits for the obvious reason- they make lots of money off of them when a sucessful verdict is rendered. And it seems that corporate entities the size of the ones involved here understand only one thing-- the monetary bottom line. If it becomes cheaper for them to get up off of the back of their collective laps and write a driver which allows these NICS to work properly than to defend themselves in a court of law then you can count on them to do just that-- but not until they are convinced that it is the cheapest way out of the situation. Another thing is also a certainty-- if we do nothing to force the issue then nothing is what we will receive.

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

My problem is a little different but I'm sure it's related to what I've been reading. I don't get an error message. My problem is that my system will not retrieve and IP address automatically. It can see the secured network, seemingly connect to it, but will go no further. Now here's the strange thing. If I hard code the IP address and DNS info, everything works great. Remove the hard coded info and I'm back to square 1. This is my first G series system from HP. I've been a strong support of their nc and compaq series. I am very suprised at their lack of response to this growing problem. I have Internal contacts and intend on using them to get this resolved. don't know how much help I'll be but someone has to start the ball moving. Let me know if hard coding your ip info resolves your problem.

Thanks,

Tech

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

Hey, your problem sounds very similar to mine.  I could connect to the router but right after the establish connection, it will say "Limited Connectivity".  Can you tell me how do I Hard code the Ip address?  I have linksys wrt54g router.

Another thing, is there a way to replace this wireless card with similar or different card?  Hopefully it's not built onto the motherboard? can anyone confirm this?  or I am thinking about just buying the USB wireless adapter. any idea? thanks

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

To my knowledge there is no way to replace the internal card. However, you can use a usb as an alternative.

To hard code your address,

into your network and sharing center,

Select 'Manage network connections" from the sidebar menu

Double click "Wireless Network Connection"

Click "properties"

Double click "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)

Select "Use the following IP address"

Enter your IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

You will also need to enter at least 1 DNS server address.

I did find a driver that appears to be a little more recent then the one I have loaded. Don't know if it will make things better or worse.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-62508-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=vn&...

Hope this helps.

Re: Trouble with Atheros AR5009 WLAN adapter

I tried to install the driver from HP's site but it was no different than the one I already had. I'm going to run a packet sniffer to see if I can see if this is a compatibility issue between the adpater and the access point. The fact that it's not working with DHCP is very confusing.
