Quite frankly after a pretty long decision making process it came down to the 802.11n in the DV7 1260 that made me buy this notebook because I have an 802.11n router.
After spending a wasted hour on the phone with HP tech support with NO RESOLUTION I find this thread and find out that the n capability doesn't work.
Sounds like FALSE ADVERTISING to me...
HP, got a response?

during this "long decision making process" did you not notice the fact that 802.11n doesn't realy exist yet?

Even though it is a "draft" 802.11n has been out and available for a while.
I have draft n router (Linksys WRT310) that has works great. At least with network cards that have the n enabled.

Hi,
I seem to have solved this 802.11n connection problem for my part :-)
At least i'm getting the 300Mbps in my details on the connection Speed. And 802.11n on the router
So what did I do:
First I tryed to upgrade BIOS (Don't think this had somthing to do with it)
Then i changed my security setting on the router to WPA- AES as I have been using WEP in the past. (WPA2 did not work)
And now I can connect in 802.11n ![]()

Hi
I thought I'd sling so additional mud. I purchased the 8" HP portable that had the Atheros chipset and if I was setting right under my access point I had an IP if I walked 10 feet I didn't have any connection at all. So, I blew away the O/S and reinstalled and all of the usually things with no success. I finally returned the unit in it's broken state.
Then I purchase the HP dv7-1267cl which I thought had the Intel chipset and found that it didn't but had the Atheros AR5009, having similar issues. Nice box though....FYI, I haven't had any luck installing a 32bit O/S either unless you try the Windows7 beta which is nice but not ready for prod just yet.
Not a lot of support on HP's site for drivers or issue resolutions either.....
The Atheros chipset can be replaced with comparable Intel or Broadcom chipsets....
HP should have stuck with Intel or Broadcom devices. They may cost a little more but they are worth it in the long run.
Good luck.....

Seemed to do the trick! I'm connected at 300Mbps.
I'll have to do some tests to see if I'm getting close to that actual speed, but it seems to be working.
Thanks!
OK HP, you're off the hook, but you could make sure it's in the documentation somewhere or at least let your off-shore Technical Support know how to solve a problem...
