Worked with the ISP provider for 3 hours and determined problem with computer. Was able to access internet using a desktop and ruled out the modem as the culprit. Literally happened overnight. Connection status indicates connected with limited access, but the IE says otherwise. We tried to ping the modem from the control prompt...failed with status code 1231. Help.

Hi:
What model wireless network adapter do you have in the notebook?
Perhaps a driver update will help.

Hi,
It's a Broadcom adapter. My problem was solved. I uninstalled AVAST and everything has worked fine since then. There was a recent update(3 days prior) for AVAST. I haved since switched to another product.
