I just got a new Pavilion dv7 laptop and I have the same problem. Wireless connection stays but IE and Mozilla will stop working after a short time.
I have to disconnect and reconnect to my network to get it to work again. Not sure what is causing it. My wife's laptop stays online no problem.
Linksys 802.11g.

HI hope this helps,
Go to control panel > power options> under your selected power options click on change plan settings >change advanced power settings> look for the setting for your wireless card and set the power setting mode to never. ![]()
Although I am not an HP employee, I am speaking for myself cause I cant speak for HP.

What Anti-Virus are you running? After you installed it did you run the Norton Removal Tool at http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf

Thanx for all the responses. My problems were resolved after bios and device driver update for wireless card.

I have the exact same problem with my HDX 16 as you and hundreds of others describe on this sight with HP's various laptops. From reading other forums, including some here, i think its a route and your wireless card compatibility issue. Older tech and newer tech. Here's something from a forum from mydigitallife.com about someone with the same problem who had some thorough feed back. It seemed like he fixed it (he had an HDX16t)
o "I did finally call HP, and between them telling me, and these and other forums, I seem to think it's definitely the router. The router is around 4 years old, and was of course Pre-Vista by that age. I just went this morning and got a new Linksys-N-G-B capable router and am gonna try that tonight. I'm at work now, so just gotta wait till then. But if that works fine, then I shall try the better encryption you suggested. I figured the MAC address filter was a bad idea. Well, we shall see if the new router fixes the problem. I'll post my results."
the next day...
o "Now as for my wireless issues everyone, I did purchase a new Linksys N Ultra RangePlus router. It does N/G/B modes, so it's backwards compatible. Anyways, so far so good. I haven't had any disconnects at all. Keepin my fingers crossed that was all it was. I'll update if I continue having issues with the wireless."
What you could do to check this without spending much:
- Check what type your wireless card is. N-G or whichever and check what your router is broadcasting. If they differ but your not convinced, next time your traveling and checked into a hotel with free wireless, see if you can connect and stay connected. If you can, ask to see there router.
Ill give this a shot soon with my HDX16t and post what i find. Then praise the guy from mydigitallife because the problem is probably just that HP updated their wireless cards to a faster type, and the worlds routers are still, so to say/becoming, in the legacy stage.

I have the same problem as well. I have the Netgear WPN824. My wifi indicator on the top panel was always red regardless of status. The HP support went through some things and eventually told me to do a backup and reinstall the default system. Now everything is working good except that now when I turn on my computer it won't link up to my hotpoint. I have to link up to a local open network link, and it won't work, then I link back to mine and it then works. The name is changed to "blablabla 2" any suggestions.

Hi,
Thanks to all for helpful posts. My behavior (which is exactly similar btw... connection to router, ping works, DL for WinderzUpdate works, etc.) started after I msconfig'd to turn off all the pre-installed garbage that was bogging down my system. I use this laptop for one thing only; connecting to the internet when I don't feel like being in the office in the basement, so I wasn't in the mood to do a bunch of reinstalls, driver DL via another computer moved over via USB key etc.
After WinderzUpdates and HP updates did nothing to fix it I re-enabled the Norton free trial crap and it all started working again. Thanks for the ad-ware HP.
