I am finding that I have weak WIFI reception on a CQ10-400CA running Windows 7. Using InSSIDer 2.1 I receive amplitude signals of 65-70 to a WIFI AP 10 ft away runnng @ 175mw. I have a HP Elitebook 2530P right next to it getting signals of 20-30db The power settings are set to maximum. I have removed the checkmarks on power on settings as per compaq recommendation. I've tried the old drivers and the new. Ralink 3.0.13.0 and 3.2.1.0. Does anyone know if this is normal for this model?

I mis-spoke on the driver versions. They were Ralink 3.0.13.0 and 3.1.5.2. The 3.2.1.0 is a Windows 7 wifi driver. I'm not sure if it is compatible with this machine. It is in the download list, but it doesn't seem to install.

Last night I downloaded the newest Ralink driver from Ralink. v.3.2.7.0 The device still has a low signal reception. I found the service manual and removed the back cover to reseat the wlan module and antenna cables. Still no effect. The signal is 1/3 the power of other laptops and falls off at very short distances. Is it possible that the antenna could have been disconnected inside the monitor?

I solved it. After looking at the service manual very carefully, I noticed that the white and black antenna wires were reversed. A reversal of the cables fixed the problem and it now receives signal as strongly as any of my laptops. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02481106.pdf Thanks for the manuals Compaq.
