Where can I find ethernet controller driver for pavillion dv4-4270us

I upgraded the O.S. on my new pavillion dv4-4270us from Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.  After the upgrade my ethernet controller doesn't work because it doesn't seem to have a driver installed.  Here is a screen shot of device manager showing the non-working ethernet controller.

I have downloaded and tried installing all the drivers in the "networking" section of the support page for the dv4-4270, but none of them helped.  All of them seemed to be wireless or bluetooth drivers anyway.  I need a driver for me ethernet controller (wired network).  Where can I find the driver?  Please help.

Hi, Rex:

Your screen shot hasn't cleared the HP censors yet.

If you want to expedite things, please go to the device manager and click on the ethernet controller needing drivers.

Then click on the details tab.

In the Properties drop down list, select the second item (Hardware ID's).

Post the top string of characters you see (You should be able to highlight and copy and paste the string right to your reply page).

Don't send a screen shot or we will be in the same situation as we are now.

Those will ID the model of the wired ethernet controller you have and I will try and find the drivers you need.

I see that there are no wired ethernet controller drivers listed on your notebook's support and driver page.

Re: Where can I find ethernet controller driver for pavillion dv4-4270us

Paul,

Thank you for your quick reply.  Here is the ID string that you requested:

PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1083&SUBSYS_3585103C&REV_C0

In addition, there are two other devices that have no working driver: the "Base System Device" and the "SM Bus Controller".  Here are the ID strings for both of them.

PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2392&SUBSYS_3585103C&REV_30
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C22&SUBSYS_3585103C&REV_05

Thank you for your help.

Re: Where can I find ethernet controller driver for pavillion dv4-4270us

You're very welcome, Rex.

Wow, I have never seen that ethernet controller before...

The device details report it to be an Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

Try these drivers for it. Select the W7 x64 driver download for the AR8151 network chip.

http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-network-drivers.php

The base system device is your JMicron card reader that is missing the drivers.

Try these...

Last but not least (Actually you should install this one first), is a motherboard component that needs the Intel series 6 chipset driver installed.

Below is the link to the latest Intel chipset driver. Select the first download file listed.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20775&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%...=

I think that is a shame that HP has not included these vital component drivers on your notebook's support and driver page.

Please let me know if these get your notebook set up and running.

Re: Where can I find ethernet controller driver for pavillion dv4-4270us

Thanks again Paul!  Those drivers worked great.  The atheros ethernet driver was a little tricky because it came a s a zip file that I had to unzip and then install from the Device Manager, but it all worked.

I have to admit I was a little surprised that Atheros is a Czech company.  It reminded me of my computer security professor who always told us, "The Bulgarians can write code, too."  Apparently so can the Czechs.

You're very welcome, Rex.

Glad all the drivers worked.

I don't think they had computer security classes when I want to college.  :smileyhappy:

Best regards,

Paul
