Windows 7 crashing - issue with Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter

Hi,

I bought a new HP Laptop G61 series - AMD, Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. One day after I bought it, it refused to start up. it keeps crashing, presents the blue screen, restarts and then crashes. Goes into a loop. It says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the bottom it says ndis.sys

I did some preliminary digging and the issue appears to be with the Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. I uninstalled the driver, and I was able to restart without any issues but in 5 mins i see the same problem appear again.Seems like the device is reinstalled automatically.

Also, am unable to find the Atheros driver for AR9285 dfor 64bit Windows 7 Premium; and without the appropriate driver, cannot use wireless.

The moment i install the driver from the link below (from an answer to a user's question on the forum), the system crashes again.

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Wireless-Internet-and-home/Atheros-ar9285-Windows-7-Fatal-Exceptions/m-...

I also downloaded from the link below, but to no avail

http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/2120019/atheros-ar9285-wireless-network-diver-9.0.0.173-windows-7(...

I also went into the drivers folder, and renamed the "athrx.sys" as "athrx1.sys" , but to no avail.

I selected the "update Driver" option as well, and selected the location of the new file, but when i see the driver folder, it shows "athrx.sys" modified in 2009. So, definitely being picked up from some other location than the latest one from the link above.

Hardware IDs for the Card are

PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002B&SUBSYS_303F103C&REV_01
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002B&SUBSYS_303F103C
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002B&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002B&CC_0280

Any help will be much appreciated.
