That's because this problem has gone unsolved since 2007!

LOL...so I guess I need a new motherboard...glad its still under warranty. Wonder how hard it will be to get HP to realize this? My dad sat on the phone for 4 hours with Dell until they realized it. Any suggestions?

I don't believe malicious software any longer, and forget the disk diag, the notebook rediscovers the WLan if I boot F10 F9 and save default configuration. This is a faster recovery but I suspect something in a recent microsoft release disables the device when the computer sleeps or is turned off.

Having the exact same problem. Put it to Sleep, opened it up, and wireless adapter was missing. Tried to re-install, nothing works. I have a Presario F761US. Seems to have something to do with Wireless Assistant. Will keep trying but hope on of the experts will look at this today since it IS Expert day.

Having same problem - Wireless card just disappeared.. Wireless assistant not working. Nothing on this forum seems to work for me. I have DV6449 3 years old , worked fine (more or less) until Monday. computer went to sleep woke up with no INTERNET.. i have read this forum up and down , have tried many of the fixes to no avail. Have yet to see any HP person make a comment? Where are you HP people? Is anyone going to at least acknowledge the problem. If it is in fact a "hardware" issue and its clearly not.. It would still be "your" hardware issue. Since my computer is not under warranty and I have no way to resolve this issue on my own. What does HP suggest ? Is there a way to replace the internal wireless card with one without the issue? I see some people are buying USb wireless cards and some of them are not working ? I use my computer and the internet to make my living (such as it is) but i can not afford to buy another laptop right now. Any help from the "pros" would be greatly appreciated.
this is not an isolated problem. this is not a small problem that will just go away. So many of us rely on our computers for our daily livelihoods. We will not go away either..

Nope, they aren't. I've had two posts censored by mods today.

I have an HP tx1000 (Vista) bought in May, 2007 (out of warranty, of course). I installed Windows 7 when it first came out and haven't had any problems 'til now. It has an integrated Bluetooth/wireless module down on the MB. The wireless functionality is gone. It was working fine. The system shut down to install some updates (from MS). Upon immediate reboot, no wireless detection. I've downloaded whatever drivers I could find (hey, HP...how come there are only Vista drivers on the support website...hmm?) with no positive results. The Bluetooth functionality still works, and the light is blue indicating the module is functioning. HP Network Assistant (or whatever) Help suggests the wireless can be switched on or off in the BIOS. The BIOS does not offer this feature (yes, I updated the BIOS). However, the fact that it CAN be switched in this manner points toward a possible solution. Something is disabling the wireless so it is not detected. What's needed is the ability to switch the wireless back on, or insure that it is switched on during boot. Got a software conflict somewhere that needs to be addressed. Meanwhile, we're stuck with hardwiring our ethernet, using Bluetooth 3G connection ($$ ka-ching $$), or (God forbid) tel-modem, or buying a new system. HP, please step forward and at least comment on this.

I too have a TX 1000 with the same issue. My problem started yesterday, October 6th. I have spent a great deal of time trying to restore the functionality. I also have a functioning Bluetooth but no indication that the system even sees the wireless LAN.
I hope either HP or Microsoft provides a solution quickly.
