Hi, I have an HP Presario CQ61 notebook with an Atheros AR9285 wireless adapter. When the laptop is idle for more than say 5 mins, the wireless adapter looses connection to the wireless router. I then have to reconnect which can take a while to do - it is quicker to restart the laptop. Not changed any settings. Any suggestions?

At a command prompt, in the Start Search box, or in the Run box, type the following command:
mmc devmgmt.msc
Go to Network section and expand it.
Select Atheros AR9285 wireless adapter.
Right-click and select Properties.
Go to power management tab.
Uncheck the two check boxex.
Click OK and OK.
This should resolve the problem.

Vidya

Vidya, thanks for the advice.
The option, "allow the computer to turn off the device to save power" option was ticked.
Thanks for your help.

Vidya, did what you suggested but still having the same problem. Been out this PM and on my return - no connection.
Followed you guidance again and despite the box being un-ticked, the laptop had lost connection.
Any other ideas?

Have you restarted the system after making this change? If not restart the system and see if the issue persists.
If the issue persists, try downloading and installing the latest driver from the following weblink:
