I Googled 'dv7t bios white list' and after reading up on it for 30 minutes I downloaded and installed a replacement bios (a modified ver F.1 bios) that eliminated the white list. It works! Now, I am happily using and Intel advanced N 6300 that I bought on amazon.com for $39. I donated to the forum and the programmer that supported this BIOS modification.
I had to install a 3rd antenna ($2.50 amazon.com) to use the 6300, which required complete disassembly, but it was worth it to me. I got 450mbps 15 feet and 1 plaster wall to the router, and very good 5GHz transceiving data rates throughout my home.
It's ridiculous that a customer with a new, top-of-the-line, laptop has to go to these extremes to get a modern dual band WLAN card to work in 'their' computer.

Guys,
DId any of you manage to use a 6230 from any source including HP without doing a bios mod?
FWIW, all the DV7's I have been able to play with have the 1030 cripple card. Interestingly enough, the one HP Envy I checked out had the Intel 6230.
I'm reading the Envy manual; they all come with 2 wire antennas. Oddly, it mentions a Broadcom 43224, and the Intel 6200. I find this very strange; it seems there is no attempt to ensure correct card or part numbers in the manuals. I'm guessing the manuals are completed after the overall line is specced out but then never updated to reflect the reality of what actually ships and is in the bios.
I sort of understand why HP went back from 3 wires (in the DV9933CL) to 2; less hassle in design, construction and assembly. I can't understand why HP or other vendors would try to save $10 on a fairly high end, perhaps $1000 laptop by putting in a crippled wifi card. Once anyone has used it they'd be thrilled to cough up an extra $10 or $20 to have wifi that's usable.

I was not able to install any card i ordered from HP.
The manuals say it should work, the datasheets saysit should work, i couldn't install any.
So i modded my bios and was able to install whatever i please.
