is the atheros ar5009 wifi card compatible with my hp envy 14 laptop?

Hello everyone,

I am thinking of switching out my integrated wifi card because i need a wifi card that supports "monitor mode" for school and upcoming school projects.

The curret wifi card that i have is an intel(r) centrino(r) advanced-n 6200 AGN and i am thinking of replacing it with an

Atheros AR5009 integrated 802.11 a/g/n wifi adapter.

I found the atheros ar5009 on ebay and it says that it is for hp so i am going to provide the link and i am hoping that someone here could tell me if that specific wifi card will work for my hp envy 14 laptop?

I would really appreciate it if someone here could look at that webpage and tell me if that wifi card will work for my hp envy 14 laptop so i am not waisting my money. Also what i am curious about is that atheros ar5009 card is listed on ebay as an "HP" atheros ar5009 wifi card, do i need an atheros card that is specifically for hp inorder for it work with my hp envy 14 laptop?

I really need some assistance on this because like i said i need this for school...

Hi:

I need to know the full model number of your Envy 14 in case there are different service manuals for different Envy 14 models.

I pulled this Envy 14 manual out of the support site for general reference.

Please see chapter 3, page 21 for the two wireless cards that are supported for this model Envy 14.

No Atheros cards are supported and yes you must purchase the exact card listed in the manual and it must have the HP part number on it, or it will not work.

Please post back with your full model number and I will see if there is a different manual that lists different wireless cards.

If you don't know the full model number, please post the product number which can be found on the same sticker as the serial number.

were you saying that no "atheros" chipsets are compatible with hp laptops?

i really hope that is not true because i could have sworn that some hp laptops come with ahteros chipsets on their wifi cards?

also i really need an atheros chipset...

If atheros chipsets will work for my hp envy 14 laptop then it doesn't have to be that specific model that i mentioned above just as long as it is an "atheros" chipset another model will do.

I'm afraid that wasn't the right number.

There may be several HP notebooks that have the Atheros 5009 wireless card, but I couldn't tell you which ones.

I am pretty sure that the 5009 is an older Atheros card and that none of the new notebooks have it.

Once I can confirm what is the right manual for your PC (if the one I posted isn't already it), we can find out for sure.

Again the reason i am emphasizing atheros chipsets is because they support monitor mode which is what i

OK, now we have a model number...

You have the HP ENVY 14-1110nr Notebook PC.

Below is the link to the support and driver page for your notebook for your future reference.

As you can see, there are different cards available for your notebook, but no Atheros ones (Chapter 3, page 23.

Perhaps the Broadcom Broadcom 43224 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi Adapter has the features you need. I don't know, and I don't have any idea where you would find that info.

In any event, if you want to try that card, and you live in the USA, you need the one with part # 582564-001.

If you want to get it on eBay then you need to do a search by the part number to ensure you get the right card.

Remember, if the card doesn't have that part #, it will not work. The notebook won't even boot up until you remove an unsupported card.

Bottom line:  No Atheros card of any model will work in your notebook.
