i have a compaq presario cq61-411wm
i have a few other devices that are connected to my home network and every time i turn on this laptop my entire internet goes out. i have a linksis wireless router that connects everything and have never had a problem with it until i got this laptop. This only happens when there are other devices on and then i turn the laptop on. It doesnt happen when i have the laptop on and then turn on something else. I have checked all my tcp/IP settings and dns settings and they are all set to configure automatically. i have checked my routers dhcp setting and it is on and working properly. I have tried every option and am getting fed up with this problem, sick of needing to turn off this laptop 2 or 3 times just to get everything working properly. If anyone can help me with this i would much appreciate it.

Have you checked for a firmware update for the router?

You might try the network (wireless) driver at hp.com. You need to know if you have Atheros, Broadcom, or Realtek. Look in device manager (Start->right click Computer->Manage->Device Manager) and expand "Network" or something similar. Then download the appropriate driver.

Well thats why im here, there are no drivers on the web page spacifically for this computer. The laptop is pretty new and the router is about a year older. But all drivers are up to date on the laptop, or so it says.

Just spent the day testing and trying to fix. Same problem but now i know for a fact that it is not the IP addresses. I have set static IP addresses for everything on my network, all were able to connect to the internet in multiple configurations. But still every time i have a device on and then try to connect with the laptop, that has an Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter and Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller with all the up to date drivers, it sees something else on the network and crashes the entire network. (Weird thing is that it is NOT trying to use the same IP address that anything else is trying to use, it was set up with its own static IP)The only way to get the network back is to disconnect all devices (by either turning them off, unplugging them, or turning their wireless cards off) and res et the linksys cisco wireless router WRT110. I've since set everything back to automatic. Im So tired of this. Seems like the only thing i can do to fix this is to make sure that before i use anything else on my network (if this laptop will be in use as well) i need to make sure this laptop is on before the other devices so that it can gain its IP address first.

The only idea I have is scan your computer for malware with something like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (search for it) and also try going to device manager looking for network adapters. Right click the adapter, click Uninstall, and reboot. This refreshes the wireless adapter/driver.

Nope nothing, found out that it happens with my mother in law's compaq presario CQ56 as well. There is absolutly no way that they can even be on the same network together at the same time. SO FED UP WITH HP THAT IT DISGUSTS ME!

I was having trouble with my Pavilion dv9230us running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 randomly dropping the wireless connection. My Pavilion has an Intel PRO Wireless 3945 ABG adapter. Someone on the forum suggested to "Uninstall" the driver and restart my computer. I used this method: START > CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > DEVISE MANAGER > NETWORK ADAPTER > iNTEL PRO > GO TO DRIVER TAB & CLICK UNINSTALL> OK ---- THEN Restart your computer.. My Internet connection has been working for about 8 hours now without interruption. I think the driver was corrupted and the Uninstall and Restart installed a new driver. Hope this helps someone.
