After I bought a new HP last night I tried to go on line, but the wireless connection does not show up. I have a Cisco 3000, and was using the 5 Mhz signal...I changed to the 2.4 and now the computer does see the signal....but it obviously slower than the 5 mhz signal....This is a brand new computer so it doesn't make sense, I should not have to slow down the router from my old computer. Has anyone else run into this probem? And if so, how did you fix? Thanks in advance.

Hi;
More than likely the PC you bought has a wireless adapter that only works on the 2.4 GHz frequency.
Look in your device manager for the model of the WLAN card you have and look up its specs online.

paul is actually right, not all notebooks, no matter how new it is, support the 5mhz band from routers and that's pobably why the network is not being detected by your wireless card.
...KUDO's to me and if this resolves the issue, please tag this as "AcceptedSolution"
