Hi tineers,
Your options are limited without connectivity.
EDITS:
Dan brings up a good point - You have to try a wired connection to test the Basics.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
At least your drivers are up to date.
For what it will be worth, here's the doc so you'll have a decent check list:
Notebooks - Troubleshoot Internet or E-mail Connection on a Wireless Network with Windows 7
The doc may help - do take a look if you can.
Try / Consider:
- Do a Hard Reset to shake things back to normal.
- Do a System Restore to the last known date / time that this worked. This is actually your best option unless something has actually changed on the Outside of your configuration instead of within the computer.
- You could try turning off / on your router - I'm not yet advocating a full reset, just turn it off and then back on. Sometimes that is enough.
- Some routers can be set to log mode - or have log mode already on... check and see what the log says.
- Check and see, if you wish, what the Event Viewer says (Start > Event Viewer). It's sometimes hard to decipher, but sometimes one can can find the obvious "adapter is NOT working, you are toast" kind of errors.
==================================================
The Hard Reset:
This method works for a variety of Driver connection and ‘stuck’ program issues.
- Shut down the computer
- Disconnect all external devices - everything.
- Remove AC power and the battery
- Press and hold power button for at least 30 seconds
- Reinstall the AC power for first startup ** See Note
- Power on - Log in
- Next time you shut down the system, reinstall battery.
** Note: If time is short, reinstall battery the first time and be done with it.

Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues
==================================================
- Check the document in the link for how this works and how to check whether you have a viable Restore point for this issue
Below find the instructions on how to use System Restore. System Restore will remove those programs you installed after the Restore Point: Your personal files and data will not be affected (and will still be as they are now).
Most computers already have System Restore enabled on at least the "C" (main) disk drive. You will probably have at least one "Restore Point" to which you can return (a previous date and time) when things were working. When you invoke (start) System Restore, it will tell you which Restore Point immediately available and let you know if you can select others.
If you installed several programs over a period of days and your program failed after the first newer installed software, then you should "go back" to a Restore Point date that includes that first date. Otherwise, select a more recent date and see how it goes.
==================================================
How to Use System Restore:
Restoring Windows to a Previous Point (Windows 7)
Reference - Setting Up Restore Points and System Restore:
Prior to making any changes to your computer, you can make sure you have a Restore Point. If things go sideways, you can “go back in time”. This is called System Restore. Once you have System Restore enabled, the computer will make Restore Points automatically prior to many program installations. You can also create a Restore Point manually.
Make sure Restore Protection is turned on for the C:\ drive
AND
Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection > Create a Restore Point
=================================================
I hope this helps.
Good Luck!

Can you attach a network cable to your laptop while you investigate the error? This will also tell you if your router and provider are having any problems.

Yeah...
I pointed him at the Wireless document so he could use the checklist.
I'd have thought he would plug in a wired connection to test the basics.
Good Point, though. ![]()
Gotta love it.
