wwan not working on HP Elitebook 2540p

Hello,

I am posting here as so far I have spent a day with no success trying to get the wwan card in my new HP Elitebook 2540p to install.  To date I have enabled this in the bios and installed all the latest drivers (note the driver install fails as it fails to find a Gobi 2000 device.

I searched numerous forums and found several people have had issues with getting the HP un2420 Mobile Broadband Module to work - some of the suggestions were issues with running 64 bit - As this laptop comes with 64 Bit media one of the first things that I did was install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 to be able to use more than 4 gig of RAM etc.

In online support to HP I have been through all the hardware ID's of network devices in Device Manager - dealt with at least 5 different technicians and some of the highlights have been removing and reinstalling the card - so at least I know the card is indeed physically there.  The last technician advised I would need to install the 32 bit version of Windows 7 to "isolate" the issue.  Well I did that and there was no change - on Windows 7 32 bit this card still does not show.

I contacted HP Support again and it appears that this hasn't isolated the issue - although it did entertain me for a couple of hours.  Fortunately I took a image of the disk so I am now back to Win 7 64 bit with my programs email etc.

I am currently waiting for the last tech I chatted to speak with his colleagues and supervisor and email me back (he said in about a day) so in the meantime anyone have any ideas?  Has anyone else seen or experiencing this issue on their notebook and interested in following my progress?

Hoping to have this fixed soon....

Re: wwan not working on HP Elitebook 2540p

Well it has been a day and a bit and I got my response from my assigned HP Remote Technician:-

"if possible please check with another known good WWAN card on the notebook, as that will help us a lot to isolate the cause of the issue."

I have to admit after a day I was expecting something a little more dramatic or a few ideas of things to try...

No I don't have a spare wwan card sitting around (Had I one I would have tried that by now) - it's been two days and it looks like a hardware fault so I've requested a technician be sent - will wait and see what happens next.

Re: wwan not working on HP Elitebook 2540p

1 - Check by F1 - that BIOS See your Un2420!

2 - Run some LiveCD with XP, then load/ recognize all devices (have internal soft on LiveCD)

3 - See in device your un2420?

4 - Try use AIDA - to see it.

If see - try in new partition Win XP 32bit. Not Vista, Not 7.

And all must be work!

I have probook 6550b (F.07 Bios) + WinXP32 + un2420 = all works!
