Can not connect to the internet with wired network adapter

HP Pavillion dv6325us laptop,

Windows Vista,

AMD Turion 64x2,

NVIDIA nforce networking controller,

Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN adapter

Verizon FiOS, Actiontec router

Hi All, I have what i think is a unique situation; on my laptop, I cannot connect to the internet using my wired network adapter. However, I can connect to the internet with the wireless adapter, go figure. The wired adapter does have a connection the local segment (LAN). All other Hosts, on the same segment (LAN), have internet access. I have another Hp Pavillion laptop (dv2317us) running Vista, it’s having No problem accessing the internet.

So far, I’ve reinstalled network driver(s) from HP and NVIDIA (they installed successfully), released/renew the adapter, reset the TCP/IP stack, reset Winsock, flushed DNS, Route table and NetBios names and I’m sure I’m missing something else but, to No avail.

I’m getting all correct TCP/IP parameters, i.e., IP-Address, IP-Mask, Gateway IP-Address, DNS IP-Address but can Not ping other Host on the local subnet/segment resulting in a ‘destination host unreachable’ message. I get the same message with a tracert command

I think network adapter driver is not playing well with the TCP/IP stack. But, what do I know?

One more thing, when I look at the ‘Local Area Connection’ adapter in windows it shows “Unidentified network” and yes, it is enabled

Below are all the outputs I could think of to post: ask if you want others

Please Help!

It's strange. You can't receive ping from an unreachable host but it says 4 sent and 4 received..

I can't see anything wrong on the configuration. Any antivirus or firewall on the system??

Re: Can not connect to the internet with wired network adapter

good catch; i did not notice that. i disabled the firewall but not antivirus. i will try that. i hope it's not something to do with them mucking around patching ipv4 to interoperate with ipv6 (the reason i say this is another machine on the same LAN all-of-a-sudden stopped accessing the internet. as it was late and i was tired, i shutdown the machine and in the moring powered it up and poof the issue was resolved). i will repost after disabling antivirus.

thank you (pepe999) for looking at my issue -techguyisme

Re: Can not connect to the internet with wired network adapter

The problem was resolved by going into the wired adapter (NVIDIA nforce networking controller) in windows device manager selecting the device right clicking choosing advanced --> properties --> network address --> value and entering any mac-address (hopefully not one being used) then ok button. after that internet access was restored.

I don't know what caused this issue. with the machine in question i did a factory restore to fix another issue which the restore resolved and while trying to update windows discovered this issue. I don't really like this fix because it may trip things up later if by chance another device has the same mac-address as the one i madeup.

anyway, thanks for your help -techguyisme

Re: Can not connect to the internet with wired network adapter

oops, i forgot to say what the problem was! the mac-address of the wired nic adapter was all zeros 00:00:00:00...(see the ipconfig /all output in the original post); so i changed it to something other than all zeros
