Can't turn on WiFi

Have HP Pavilion dm-4 1165dx ---- Normally F12 turns on the WiFi,  but it's not working -- like its frozen  -- 3 month old machine and it was working 24 hours previously -- Ideas??

Re: Can't turn on WiFi

Hi,

Shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.  Then re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter and see if this helps the issue.

Regards,

Re: Can't turn on WiFi

Hi,

From windows Control Panel, open Windows Mobility Centre.  Can you see the status of the wireless card here?

Re: Can't turn on WiFi

Interestingly, I can go in to the Windows Mobility Center,  go to Integrated Wireless Devices, and have the option of turning the wireless on.  There was no LAN card listing ----

I turned it on, and now F-12 is blue,   but I still have a message on the Wireless Network "not connected".

The HP Wireless Assistant says  "This device has been disabled by the wireless button and cannot be enabled from the wireless assistant."

So at this point, I can pick up a signal from the wireless in the building I work in, but I cannot connect.

I spent a LONG time chatting with a HP rep on my PC this morning, and he sent some drivers to my home computer PC, and I can try to connect by wire to the laptop I guess.    Can't figure out why the button on a 3 month old machine is acting up.

Re: Can't turn on WiFi

Hi,

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.

sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )

Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.

Now, from windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Network Adapters.  Right click on the wireless device and select Uninstall.  When this process has completed, restart the notebook and let Windows reinstall the device.

Re: Can't turn on WiFi --SOLUTion

So, many thanks for trying to help me -- here's what ultimately worked --- when I got home, hooked the laptop to a wire, then went to site previously suggested by a technician :

Web link for HP Quick Launch Buttons:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49104.exe

Installation Instructions
1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved).

and the problem was solved ---
