EliteBook 8440p wifi

Hi,

I have been working on getting wifi working on the 8440p laptop. I am using OpenSuSE 11.2 64bit. Both ndiswrapper and iwlagn don't seem to make it work. Any suggestions? The hardware is OK since it works on Windows 7.

Thanks!

Re: EliteBook 8440p wifi

All Intel wifi cards should work on linux in the live cd or usb. I have

02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection

and it works on Sabayon linux 5.2, Ubuntu 10.04, 09.10 and lower and also on openSUSE 11.2 all on gnome. You don't need ndiswrapper or any other applications to get it work because the support is built in the kernel. Give us more details, like lspci, lshw and lsmod...

Would the 5100 module work for a 6200 card?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: EliteBook 8440p wifi

Looking in /lib/firmware shows the problem:

Installed is iwlwifi-6000-4.ucode
firmware but firmware.sh is looking for iwlwifi-6000-1.ucode,iwlwifi-6000-2.ucode, and iwlwifi-6000-3.ucode

linux-4qy8:/lib # ls /lib/firmware   | grep iwlwifi
iwlwifi-1000-3.ucode
iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode
iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode
iwlwifi-5000-1.ucode
iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode
iwlwifi-5150-2.ucode
iwlwifi-6000-4.ucode
LICENCE.iwlwifi_firmware
LICENSE.iwlwifi-6000-ucode
README.iwlwifi-6000-ucode

Any suggestions as to what to do next?

Thanks

Re: EliteBook 8440p wifi

You have one of these.

Intel Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 (3x3) 802.11a/b/g/n
Intel Centrino® Advanced-N 6200 (2x2) 802.11a/b/g/n

read this..

http://forums.opensuse.org/get-help-here/hardware/434646-intel-centrino-advanced-linux-compatible-2....

you have to reinstall the compat-wireless package or add a repo and install it..
