I want to connect my iPhone to my wired laptop like described here http://www.ehow.com/how_6829772_configure-ad-hoc-wireless-network.html

But unfortunately this does not work because my laptop turns off its wifi card when it is connected to ethernet via lan.

How can I solve this?

Hi:

Go into the BIOS.  I am not familiar with the exact menus in the 2540p BIOS, but if there is a device configuration menu, find the LAN/WLAN Switching option and set it to Disabled.

Somewhere there is a LAN/WLAN switching setting to enable or disable.

The theory is that if the notebook is connected to an ethernet cable, then the wireless is not necessary and visa versa, so the settings default is Enabled.

You're very welcome.

Below is the link to the service manual for your model.

Please see chapter 5, page 102 for where to find this setting. (Built in Device Options).
