Same thing with my G72-B66US. I have a Trendent router that only accepts N clients. All my other laptops and PC's connect and sustain 300 MBPS rate. The HP connects to 72MBPS then drops right away to 65. That is the best rate I could get out of it. I have been countless times on chat and phone with tech support. That did not do anything beside aggravation, frustration and an amazing reply from a case manager (Josh) " If you don't like it .Return it".  Way to go Tech Support.

Number 1 in 2009 ...I doubt with this attitude.

I also feel it's a card / driver issue. I tried to use a Dell Half mini pci-e card without success (hardware not compatible). I believe HP locked approved particular hardware components in the BIOS. Why ? I does not make any sense.

What is the wireless card on this unit? if we are talking about broadcom 4313 than yes, it will top out at 72 Mbps...It is a Single Stream, support 20 MHz Channel Width only, Thus topping out @ 72 Mbps...

On the wireless card you can replace with, is available on Service and Maintenance manual on this link, Pg 3.

Ok I understand the low cost low performance deal but why was it labeled N? G wireless cards can  do 54 or 102.

I thought (and maybe I'm wrong) that N draft is between 150 and 300...

On your second suggestion I attempted to replace the wireless with a Dell Half Mini and it would not boot up. Hardware not compatible please remove and restart.  Can I purchase a replacement that will do 300 and bluetooth? What is the part number that I need to order?

I dont think you can add a Wireless that does 300 Mbps internally... You will need to add an external one... If you refer to the Service and Maintenance manual, the two other card listed over there are capable of doing max of 150 Mbps...

On the 1st Part of your post...to the best of my knowledge, the Wireless N standard does not state that 300 Mbps is mandate to call it Wireless N, it just states that technology is capable of doing that....They have achieved 600 Mbps as well...

Realtek RTL8191SE 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi Adapter 593533-001

Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi Adapter 593836-001

None of these will do 300 ?  What is model 1.1 ? (Intel  centrino card on my Dell XPS sustains 240 MBPS)

Can you verify please? Thank you for looking into this.

Re: HP G72-B66US wireless speed reported in Windows 7 very slow

The part numbers are at page 47 in the manual that you specified in the previous post.

Can we find out what is model 1.1 and how to identify that on the G72 series laptops?

One comment for the Tech Support managers.

This forum is 1000 times more efficient  than calls on tech support.

It was joy working with you guys here compared with the agonizing TS  phone calls.

Great Job on this forum !!! KUDOS for all of you.

On the 1.1, It is just an internal reference for revision of the hardware platform...your notebook is part of the 1.1 revision...But let me check on, if Intel wireless card is compartiable with this notebook to my knowledge it is not...As it requires a different Antenna config to function correctly....
