HP Pavilion dv6-3120sa Laptop PC network problems. 5 ghz?

Hi All. I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3120sa Laptop PC, with an i5 processor. The laptop is realitively new. I also have a ralink RT3090 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter built in and seems great. I recently bought a netgear n600 wireless dual band router WNDR3400 which supplies both 2.4 and 5 ghz output. This was great. But my laptop can only connect to one! Can someone with more knowledge on the subject tell me why my network card won't connect to the 5 ghz one. I believe i've set it all up right, just the SSID for the 5 ghz connection isn't even appearing on my laptop! Help please! :smileyvery-happy:

Hi,

The same problem here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Wireless-Internet-and-home/new-HP-laptop-cannot-connect-to-5GHz-802-11n...

This card is just a single channel at 2.4Ghz. Dual channel wireless cards support 802.11a/b/g/n, it means when you see specs which say 802.11b/g/n, the card is mostly a single channel..

Maintenance and service guide for your laptop: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02657339.pdf

There is no a dual channel combo compatible for you laptop. I guess that you can replace the combo by a single wifi chip (Broadcom 43224 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 WLAN pn: 582564-002) and buy a bth usb dongle for a bluetooth connectivity if necessary..

I have the same problem on my dv6 connecting to a Linksys E4200 dual-band wireless router.

So would it be an idea, a cheaper one too, to get a new router that isn't dual band? Just 5ghz N wireless. If so its annoying because my router cost be quite a bit and its a pain to have to get another one.

I know. If you are not too scared, you could disable the whitelist in the BIOS and have a card you want. I mean find any 2x2 combo, buy it and install it like me (I have a 450Mbps Intel Ultimate-N 6300). See this thread:

edit: Do you have a 5GHz router only?? I have never seen a 5GHz router without the option to switch it to 2.4Ghz..
