WiFi Doesn't Have a Valid IP Configuration

Hello all.

I have an HP Envy x2 11-g010nr running Windows 8 32 bit.

When I boot my computer, I often can't connect wirelessly to my home network.

When I run the Windows networking troubleshooter, it resets the Broadcom wireless adapter with the message, "WiFi doesn't have a valid IP configuration," then all is good.

I tried assigning the computer a fixed IP address in my router (192.168.1.6), to avoid conflicts with other machines on the network, but no luck.

Below is the full error log after a successful reset.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise: 1. Unplug or turn off the device. 2. After all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Turn the device on or plug it back into the power outlet. To restart a router or modem that has a built-in battery, press and quickly release the Reset button.

Re: WiFi Doesn't Have a Valid IP Configuration

That's a long list you have right their. I don't have time to read everything. First of, make sure you're on DHCP. Try disabling  any firewall active in your system to test this. Safe mode with networking if you have to.

You're also trying to assign a static IP, make sure that it is in range of what the router is giving you. When it says conflict, try incremnting it by one.

Re: WiFi Doesn't Have a Valid IP Configuration

Thanks, Fantamace.

DHCP is On, as indicated by both the router and the WiFi adapter.

I now think the problem is the Power Management setting for the adapter.

When I turn it off, that is, remove the ability of the computer to shut off the adapter to save power, I can connect to the network on startup without a problem.

But the computer doesn't like that change, and sometimes refuses to start when I press the Power button, or hangs when I try a Restart.

This is becoming a problem. I don't want to have to choose between the ability to connect to my network and the ability to turn on my computer.
