I have the 8500 Premium. The link you posted just says, "The following products will be AirPrint compatible after downloading and installing a firmware update, available in December 2010, using the product control panel:"
How exactly do I do this "using the product control panel'? I can't find any firmware update on the HP support site and I can't find any option on the front panel of the printer to do any firmware update. This is extremely vague. Please explain.

Do you need the 8500 A Premium to use airprint, or will it work with 8500A Plus?

Hello,
This is how you updated the printers firmware:
from the printers control pane, home screen
Right Arrow – Setup – web services Setup – product updates – check for product updates
hope this helps

Was the solution you suggested applicable only to the machine in question in that thread? I have a C309g Photosmart, and want to check for updates for my machine to see if I can print using my iPhone or iPad over iOS 4.2 Airprint.

The above firmware update description does not apply to the HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909n Series. Where is the firmware update for this particular printer?
Thanks!

Hello,
I have HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m and there seems to be no option to update the printer firmware in the printer menu. All items under "Setup" option are listed below:
Network
Tools
Preferences
Bluetooth
Snapfish Web Proxy
I was also unable to find an option to update the firmware in any of the submenus. Please tell me how do I update my printers firmware.
Any help is much appretiated.
Thank you,
Jan

The Photosmart C309 does not support AirPrint. One needs this year's model, the C310. Here's the list of HP printers that include AirPrint:
http://www.hp.com/sbso/printing/mac/apple-airprint
I don't believe that the C309 is an e-print printer either.
I hope this helps.
