I hope you are doing well and welcome to the forum;
Let's try this steps;
- Make sure the product is on, and then disconnect the power cord from the product.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the product, and then disconnect it from the computer.
- Reconnect the USB cable to the computer, and then reconnect it securely to the product.
- Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet, and then reconnect it to the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the product.
- Press the Power button (
) to turn on the product.
Check the print settings
- In the software program from which you are trying to print, click File , and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
- Select your product, and then click Properties . The printer Properties dialog box opens.
- Click the Printing Shortcuts tab.
- Under Printing Shortcuts , click the type of job you are trying to print.
- Review the following options, and then make any necessary changes.
- Paper sizes : Make sure that the selected option matches your paper size.
- Paper type : If one of the options matches your paper type exactly, select that option.
- Print quality : If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality.
- Click the Features tab. Under Color Options , make sure that Print in grayscale is not selected. Click OK , and then click OK again to start the print job.
If the issue persists , see the next solution.
Make sure the cartridges are correctly vented,
- Press the Power button (
) to turn on the product. - Use the access handles on the sides of the product to open the cartridge door.Open the cartridge door

- Press the tab on the front of the cartridge to release it.Press the tab of the cartridge

- Remove the cartridge from the slot.Remove the cartridge

CAUTION:Do not lift the latch next to the carriage to install the cartridges. Doing so can result in incorrectly seated cartridges and printing issues. The latch must remain down to install the cartridges correctly. - Examine the vent area above the HP logo on the top of the cartridge.
Use the utility included with the printer to clean the printhead.
- On the product control panel, press Setup (
). - Press the Down Arrow button (
) to select Tools , and then press OK . - Press the Down Arrow button (
) to select Clean Printhead , and then press OK . The cleaning process begins.
Manually clean the printhead I will do this one but understand that you must let the printhead completely dry before re installing in to the printer.
Some folks in the internet mentioned a while ago to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the print head and I personally did this and I did work for me this was a long time ago but I did worked wonders. use at own risk but in my case did not cause any issues and did help in that particular time.
Align the printer (if you can now).
- Load plain white paper in the input tray.
- On the product control panel, press Setup (
). - Press the Down Arrow button (
) to select Tools , and then press OK . - Press the Down Arrow button (
) to select Align Printer , and then press OK .The product aligns the printheads. When the alignment is complete, the product prints an alignment page.
I hope this helps and let me know if I can be of further assistance. I will do my best to help further,
Hope this helps;

yes. I get a print during cleaning with six color blocks, but no black of anything.. The alignment print is all in light blue. the printer says alignment failed, press ok. I can print in colors, but no black. I installed a new cartridge just in case it was a problem with the black cartridge

Can you try several times and make sure you do this part
Some folks in the internet mentioned a while ago to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the print head and I personally did this and I did work for me this was a long time ago but I did worked wonders. use at own risk but in my case did not cause any issues and did help in that particular time.
To isolate and make sure that is not the issue.

To make sure, is this the metal contact that connects to the cartridge contact?
