I have been using my 8500A for several months and in general I like it except for the excessive wait time after pressing the Power On button to ready to print. It is used on a wireless network and works fine.
This morning I upgraded the firmware to version LRP1FN1107AR. The upgrade went fine. Now I see that HP Marketsplash is displaying on the printer screen at all times when the printer is idle. I never had this problem before and want to stop Marketsplash from displaying. It prevents the power saver mode from operating on the printer.
I called HP support and as per usual I got an incompetent person who said it could not be removed (after having me wait several times while he consulted with others).
I tried uninstalling the software from the computer and re-installing but that did not help.
Anyone got a clue how to get MarketSplash off of the printer?
Thanks
John

John,
I think if you follow these steps it should help you with the results you want.
To fix your screen issue
1.From the front panel select set-up(wrench icon)
2.Select tools
3. Select screen saver
4. Turn the screen saver off.
To give your printer a faster start-up time
1. From the front panel select set-up(wrench icon)
2. Select preferences
3. Select power save mode
4. Select off
When this is selected to off and the printer is turned off some power will still be used, the printer when turned on will be able to print much faster. Hope this helps

Thank you so much. Apparently that fixed both problems (at least in a couple of short tests). You are a great help, I sure wish the manual(s) would cover this in detail.
I still have one last problem that was caused when I uninstalled the software for the printer. When I go to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit control panel and select Devices and Printers, it only shows the Printer (the 8500a) where it used to also show the FAX printer which is gone now. When I right click on the 8500a and click Printer properties it wants me to select from the 8500A printer or the FAX- 8500A network or the FAX 8500A Network Copy 1. Neither of the FAX devices show up in control panel so I have no way to remove or reinstall them. Now, I am lost on that one

John,
Go into your devices and printers and single click your printer icon(this will highlight it) up at the top in the blue bar your will see Print server properties , select this and then select the Drivers tap and tell me what 8500a drivers you see.

There are several of them:
EPSON Artisan 830 series
FAX - HP Officejet pro 8500 A910
HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g series
HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910
HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910
HP Photosmart 3300 series
Microsoft XPS Document Writer
All are followed by X64 - Type 3 - User Mode
I don't know where the Photosmart 3300 series came from, I don't have that printer and never have had one.
The Epson is on another computer on the network (not wireless).
The 8500 A910 ones appear to be dupes.

Unfortunately the Setup > Preferences > Energy Save Mode > Off did not have the desired effect.
Earlier I had turned the printer off for 20 minutes or so and started it up again. It came up very quickly and I thought the problem was solved on the slow startup. After that test I left the printer off for an hour and started it again, the slow "checking printheads" etc. came back again. I made sure the Energy Save Mode was still off and it was. Sooooo, apparently that is not a permenant fix for the 3-5 minute startup time of this printer. I have never seen any printer so slow to start up.
