We have a fairly new HP Office Jet Pro 8600. We easily connected a laptop to this printer and it worked fine for about 2 weeks. Now it shows its status as "idle" and nothing can get printed. The printer works just fine with another family computer. Any ideas? Thanks so much for any help.

Hello JCov,

I appreciate the update, thank you. It definitely helps me with gaining a better insight into what is occurring.

I have included the Print Jobs are Stuck in the Print Queue document. It has a section for the different operating systems. Please click on the version of Mac OS X that you are using and follow the steps.

Please let me know how it goes.

Hi JCov,

Thank you for being a member of the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are unable to print from one laptop to your Officejet Pro 8600 printer.

To better assist you, would you please give me some further information:

  1. How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)?
  2. What operating system are you using (Windows 7, Mac 10.9, or Windows 8, etc)? whatsmyos.com If you have a Windows operating system have you Tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows?  You can download it from hp.com/go/tools.
  3. Are you getting any messages other than the “idle” one? If yes, what does the message say and where is it displayed (computer or printer)?

Thank you.

Thanks Happytohelp. This is a wireless connection using a Mac. When I send something to print, it shows up in the print que as "printing" but its just keeps showing this. When I pull up the printer/scan access under System Preferences, the light next to the printer description is green and it says "idle". It worked fine for a while, noting the light was green and the words might have said "ready". I have reset the printer connection (deleted and added agani) a couple of time bot to no avail.

Thank you very much. I performed all the other items in the link, except the disconnection of the printer. That seemed to be the answer and I was able to print. Mission accomplished....great job!
