Hello Zobubu,
The printer is giving itself a 169.254.xx.xx IP address, which as you know, is not a valid IP address. If you have tried steps from the forums, as you've said you have, and the printer will still not accept a proper IP address, there are a few things you can do.
First, acquire the IP configuration for your network, an example could be 192.168.1.###, where "###" is the number of a device on your network, each device will have a different number in place of "###".
If you type printer's IP address, 169.254.50.143, into the address bar of an internet browser and press "Enter", does it take you to a page about your printer?
If so:
- Click on the "Network" tab on the top of the page.
- Click on "IPv4 Configuration" on the left-hand side of the page.
- Click the option to set a "Manual" IP for your printer.
- Input the settings for the printer to have it's own unique IP address on your network, an example is below but may not be appropriate for your network.
Example:
Although I work for HP, my posts and replies are my own opinion and not those of HP.

Yeah, I just got this printer and went through around 16 hours of hell trying to get it on my wireless WPA network.
Since I was connecting to a WPA network, the LJ did not have an IP yet. Therefore, the logical way to install would be on a wireless network configured through USB.
I tried installing using a Mac (and Snow Leopard) but it would install the software and hang after identifying the printer through the USB cable. So, I downloaded the update from HP and it did the same thing. I tried using a relatively vanilla Administrator account in case some OEM software was blocking it and got the same results. I installed a vanilla Snow Leopard on a spare disk and booted off there and got the same results.
Next, I tried Windows 7 under Parallels and got a HP splash screen and a black box in the middle of the screen where presumably some Window would display. I rebooted under Win 7/boot camp and got the same thing. I downloaded a new version from HP and got the same thing. I tried installing under a relatively vanilla Administrator account (plugging in USB and unplugging as prompted) and finally saw a window which allowed me to choose a SSID and enter a password. By this time I had already determined the wireless MAC address and had configured my Airport Extreme to place the printer at a fixed address through the APE DHCP settings.
Once the LJ was on the network, it was trivial to browse to it using Safari and complete the setup.
Environment: MacOS X 10.6.8, MacBook Pro 17" 2010 core-i7/8GB/1000GB, bunch of OEM software.
