HP Smart Web Print and IE9 - incompatible

Once again a major system component gets upgraded, in this case updated Explorer -  a Beta has been running for nearly a year and it has now gone live  --- and HP has not put out an updated version of their software that is compatible with the new browser. As of today I can no longer use HP Smart Web Printing tool which I use A LOT. What is it with HP??? When WIndows 7 cut the drivers and software weren't updated for 6 months after the cut. I couldn't use any of the features of my All-In-One --- NONE!!! All it did was print -- no double side, no scanningr, no faxing, no copying, NOTHING. SO here we are again a valuable tool is no longer able to function under IE9 and GOD knows when HP will put out a version for the new browser. I need help and I use this tool all the time.  Is it time to look at other printers???

Re: HP Smart Web Print and IE9 - incompatible

Smart Web Printing has evidently 'retired" and replaced by HP Smart Print, but unfortunately Smart Print has not yet been updated to support IE9.  I do not have a timeline for when that update may occur.

I wish I could give you better news, but for now we do not have an IE9 compatible option for you...

HP, Please warn us before you ask us to spend time with multiple downloads in order to find out your software does not work.

Re: HP Smart Web Print and IE9 - incompatible

HP Smart Web Printing has been retired and replaced by the HP Smart Print feature in HP Bing Bar. HP Bing Bar also replaces the old HP Yahoo! Toolbar. HP Bing Bar works in IE9, except for the important HP Smart Print feature. The retired HP Smart Web Printing add-on is also incompatible with IE9. This feature is installed by clicking on the Smart Print button on the HP Bing Bar, which will check if HP Smart Print is installed, and launch it if it is. If it is not installed it will open a web page which allows the user to download the HP Smart Print installer, which will check its compatibility with the user's system. If the system passes the compatibility checks, it will start installing HP Smart Print. If it is fails the compatibility checks, it will not start installing, instead displaying the message “Smart Print does not support PC configuration. Please see the minimum requirements.”

It will create a log file called SmartPrint_Setup.LOG with the path of the setup executable, which I am not posting, as it includes the user name and a GUID, and an event log like this:

SETUP 5-7-2011 21:35:38  [INFO] OnBegin start

SETUP 5-7-2011 21:35:38  [INFO] OS is 64bit

SETUP 5-7-2011 21:35:38  [INFO] OS is Win7

SETUP 5-7-2011 21:35:38  [INFO] IE is 9

SETUP 5-7-2011 21:35:38  [ERROR] The current Internet Explorer Browser veriosn is not support.

This compatibility check is also run when starting or uninstalling HP Smart Print, so if you installed HP Smart Print with IE8 and upgraded to IE9, you can’t run it. You can’t even uninstall HP Smart Print if you installed it with IE8 and upgraded to IE9.

The compatibility check is designed to stop users from installing HP Smart Print on outdated systems/browsers that would not run HP Smart Print correctly, for example Windows 2000 or IE 5. HP’s system requirements say “Smart Print works on Windows XP SP3, Vista and Win 7 and currently supports only Internet Explorer 6.0 and above.” Any IE9 system would meet these requirements, as it only runs on Vista and Win7 and is above IE 6.0

The installer does not recognise IE9 as a compatible browser. HP may have designed the installer to not install onto versions of IE that HP has not tested, as they may actually be incompatible due to changes in an update of IE. There has been a beta version of IE9 for several months so HP should have been aware of an upcoming IE9 release.

There are actually 4 threads on this website and 2 on other forums referring to this compatibility issue:

You should leave feedback where HP allows it, and if you have an in-warranty printer, send HP an email about the issue. Don’t forget to include these links.

Re: HP Smart Web Print and IE9 - incompatible

It would be good if you can check if there are any plans for this update, if there are any at all.

The link that PrintApper provided:

http://h41112.www4.hp.com/bing_toolbar2/smart.html?jumpid=ex_r602_ww/en/hho/ipg/xx-mu-aw_chev/smartp...

states that Smart Print will be available for IE9 in June 2011.

:smileymad:

I am REALLY annoyed to read this post. I have spent a lot of time to try and fix my computer (which I don't have with 5 kids...not your problem I know and NOT the point). It should NOT be this hard to update and fix a product. I DON'T WANT the Bing bar...and am feeling like I am being forced to accept it to make my puter run correctly because it is supported by HP. What....kind of service is THAT???????? I hope that someone from HP....admin or whatever...reads this. I am "madder" than mad. I have had HP products for years with few problems...and all of which I could find a solution for. This is unacceptable...and I hope someone listens. I don't know if I can trust HP again....when it won't even use the browser most use without problems. Sorry to the rest of the "forum" for venting...but I can't get help...am frustrated...find this out now...and it is nothing personal.

Re: HP Smart Web Print and IE9 - incompatible

HP bing bar smart printer will not work in IE9, I downloaded it and then it disappeared, problems with the ADD ons aswell, when I checked them to enable them they were disabled instead and now I cannot enable them again.Put off downloading IE9 for a long time, now I wish I had not, it has too many problems that go with it and I really liked HP smart web printing so I will probably uninstall it and go back to IE8.:smileymad:

:robothappy: Good for you I feel exactly the same way as you, like you I have been buying HP for years and this one cost me $2500.00, not chump change for someone living on a fixed income (retired) I have had problems from day one, bought 2 extended warranties, one from the store and one from HP, the store refused to honour it and HP just keeps putting me off.

If they want to keep customers then they had better improve the service, if it does not improve my next PC is going to be a Mac. In today's economy people cannot afford to be forced into making changes that screw up our computers, also the web printer with the bing bar does not work so don't waste your time with that.
