I bought a brand new C310A HP Photosmart Premium today to test something for work. I had heard that you could scan from the printer directly to an iPhone and/or iPad. This was nearly a dream come true as we are looking to outfit our outside sales team (@ 40 people) with iPads or iPhones to allow printing and scanning while out in the field. Imagine my surprise when I get this thing setup and load HP iPrint on my phone and scan an image to a PDF and discover that I can't email the PDF document as an attachment. Am I missing something completely obvious here?
Not being able to do this seems so outrageous that I didn't even think to ask if I could email it after scanning or even investigate if it was possible. It's like buying a new car and asking if it has tires. Why of course it would. Why in the world would I want to scan a document to my phone or iPad if I wasn't going to want to send it somewhere using email at some point??
I see you can share your device and I guess access the documents from a PC or Mac directly but this hardly helps if that person has none.
Anybody have an explanation?
HP, if you monitor this site, please fix this ASAP!! This is a terrible omission.

OK. I did find a work around but it is hardly ideal and I still expect HP to do something to fix this glaring omission.
Apparently if you scan a document and save it as a document it goes in the iPrint DOCUMENT folder and becomes a PDF. Good luck getting it out of there.
If you scan it and save it as an IMAGE it goes in the IMAGE folder. Images in the image folder are JPEG files and you can move them into the Camera Roll. Once in the Camera Roll, you can email that image to someone.
What a convoluted mess. Of course, this does nothing for you if the document you scan is a multi-page document of some sort.
Either way HP needs to fix this.

wow - i thought I was the only one who thought this today after buying a 310 today too! I like the tire analogy
for the record, no, you didn't miss anything ![]()
but seriously - i'm glad u got the workaround to work - i tried it earlier and the image didn't show up in my camera roll so i got really perplexed ![]()
I'm going to post to the app store - stand alone wireless printing really has me get on board with HP again after some mediocre experiences over the past few years!
+1 on emailing - it's perfect to replace the need to fax!

I suspect this is NOT an ommission. HP is in the printing and the supplies business, doubt they want to use their products to scan files to PDF's and e-mail them. Kinda sad.
That is one thing I really dislike about HP is they want to be your everything, home page, photo application etc. Please just make great printers and drivers and utilities then stay out of the way. It's like every company that wants their home page to be your everything, weather, stocks shopping, Same thing here.
The reality is you iPad application would be very enriched if you could actually scan and e-mail from the same application.

Actually, that is a great suggestion! I'm not an app developer so I have no idea how easy this would be to implement (and there could be other reasons as to why we couldn't) but it is something I will certainly pass on. I can definitely see where being able to email a scanned pdf from the iPad would be beneficial. Keep in mind that scanning in the app just recently got added. We are always looking for ways to improve the app and our cloud services in general!
Although I work for HP, my posts and replies are my own opinion and not those of HP.

Clearly they are behind this program 100% and making regular progress in adding updates and features. I mean, they updated in in August 2010 so what more could we ask for?
I think this is like every other HP product and it irks me a bit because I swore I'd never buy another HP product ever again because of their poor support. Yet, here I go again. This is a tick on the list of features they can say they have yet they clearly have no intentions of supporting it, improving it, or getting feedback from customers.
This lack of email from a scanned image is still a huge problem for us and unfortunately prevents us from buying 40 more of them.

I too assumed that ePrint would allow scan and email from iPad.
Almost 12 months have passed. Does anyone know if HP home&biz app will be updated soon to add this feature? It would make a good product into a better one.

I've given up on HP and most of their products. Now with this next round of layoffs I seriously doubt there will be any action on this product or the app that goes with it. Shameful HP.
In the meantime, check out Vuescan Mobile. It works with my printer and does what I need it to do.
