I just want to scan to my computer so I can forward using e-mail. How do I do that?

I have an   HP Officjet Pre 8600 and a Toshiba Satellite laptop.  I am trying to scan on the HP and be attach the paperwork to an e-mail by using my Toshiba to e-mail to my customer. How do I do that?
