Photosmart 7515 C311a picks from wrong tray when printing pictures why?

I have this new Photosmart7515 C311a and i had try few times to print pictures without any problems. Today I'm trying to print a 4x6 picture but instead of picking the 4x6 paper from its tray, it is picking the 8x10 regular paper to print the picture.

I have tried removing the 8x10 paper from the tray but then i get a error mess.saying that the printer is out of paper.

It's like is not recognising that there is photo paper in the tray.

I have turn if off and disconnected from wall to reset bur it doing the same. it is printing on the regular paper and not on the photo paper..

I had the same problem with  my c510 eprint printer and what I had to do was go in to the printer settings when trying to print a photo and pick the kind of paper being used. I think it is under preferences once the settings tab is opened. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for you help.... but i have done that too and not results. I have even removed the main tray and then try to print a 4x6 photo but i get " out of paper" and will not pick the photo paper..

There was a time when i noticed that the photo tray when inn but came back and i got the " out of paper message'

the funny thing is that when the installation was finished, it printed a test picture and it came out OK...

I don't even see in the setting to print photos 4x6 borderless. it only brings up to 4x6 with a border.

I like the printer but since I'm not getting any help, i will put it back in the box and return to Costco... and that it for me and HP.

Here is how I solved this issue printing with Aperture. You have to change the custom preset from Standard to 4x6 ... even though you are choosing that paper size and photo paper through the other options. Hope this works for you.

I found that you have to edit the printer properties and tell it to take the paper from the tray. When you press print you have to go to options>Printer Properties>Paper Source and change it to Photo Tray

Also I was printing with a border,.

After some experimentation I found out that the border had to be turned off in the printer settings. When I press print I have to go to options>Printer Properties>advanced ... then almost all the way to the bottom there is an option to print borderless or with a border, I turned off the border and it printed fine.

I'd been dealing with this issue since Feb. and I have try everything. Sometimes the printer does pick the right paper but must of the time, it will not and besides if I pull the 8x10 regular paper in order to force the picking of the photo paper, I will get the NO Paper message. The border less issue is already resolved. What i need is for the printer to pick the 4x6 photo paper and print on it, instead of the regular 8x10.

I went back to Best Buy and returned my first unit but to my surprise, the second unit does the same.... so i don't know what else to do.'

When I print a photo,  instead of clicking on print, right above the print button is options, I click on that then I click on printer properties and the top box is paper source, I change that to photo tray and make sure the size is right, (4x6) then click OK and it should pick up from the tray, I have not had a problem and it seems to keep the settintgs for that program that I am using to print.

when you go to print a picture and you hit the print icon a window  should open, look for page set up and you can choose what kind of paper you want to print. or it may have a   preference button you can click on  and choose what kind of paper you want the picture to print out on...whether is it photo paper 4 x 6 or regular 8 x 11 1/2 paper. There are a few choices to pick from.  Hope this helps you.

I really thank you for your cooperation.

I have tried so many things that even return my original purchased printer and got another one of the same type but it keeps giving me the same problem.

I was told that maybe when instlalling the printer there was a corrupted file that have change my original settings but i have done restauretzions   so far  back to Jan. but nothing happens.

Since i have this printer, just on four ocations has pick the 4x6 paper correctly, the rest, it picks from 8x10 and if i retrive the 8x10  i get the out of paper message. this is all after i pick the corrct paper size before printing.

I will not give up.
