The printer was unable to complete the update

[ Edited ]

Yup, another.

Actions:

1. Enabled wireless (Used both DHCP and Fixed Manual Addressing (IP and DNS [tried both internal DNS and External DNS])

2. Initially was able to connect, It downloaded a file, did what it had to and Registed on ePrint and reflected so via Web Interface.

3. Since update of whatever it updated, It reflects the error of this post title: The printer was unable to complete the update

4. Actioned a Reset to Factory Default via: Setup/Tools/Restore Factory Defaults

5. If there is an option Under to restore defaults under Web Services, it is impossible to get to it due to this error.

6. Web Services via Web interface does now seemingly state not registerd.

Pending check:

1. ISP port blocking of 5222 and 5223

Info Needed:

1. What is the ePrint URL/IP so that a telnet test can be done for both (above) ports.

2. 80 and 443 is open for us.

Re: The printer was unable to complete the update

This product is rubbish.

Resolved ISP porting and yet it still does not work.

Our Gateway/Firewall/Proxy is transparent and so not required to set at desktops.

So why does this service/printer need it.

Wi-Fi unit is sitting right next to the printer, so thats not the issue has reported in troubleshooting articles.

I believe the software download it originally was able to download and seemingly self install is the problem.

I don't see logging for HP coming from the IP of the printer.

Printer: HP8500A

Re: The printer was unable to complete the update

Hi,

From the printer menu, select the option "Printer Status Report". When the report is printed check whether printer name and model number is printed or not.

Hi mrgatwork,

Your firmware version indicate that you have the current available that we have release to the Firmware Update server.

Just to confirm, you mention you try to access the Web service Setup you encountered the message "The printer was unable to complete the update".

Is this the case?

When you press on the Apps button, what message do you get?

Also. what router brand and model are you using?

You can try to flash to the latest Firmware version that was just released :-

Thank you.

Re: The printer was unable to complete the update

Clicking Apps produces the following:

1. Web Services is not enabled

2. Terms and Conditions

3. Back to same error as per this post.

I will try the firmware update.

Thanks

Re: The printer was unable to complete the update

Firmware updated successfully.

Same results.

Only difference now is that it wants to check for product updates when I click retry every third or fourth time.

What is it trying to access: URL and/or IP, please advise this information.

Re: The printer was unable to complete the update

Forgot to mention:

Wireless unit:
Linksys WRT54G3G
Firmware Version : v2.11.05

As basic setup as it gets, purely serves wifi connections.

Re: The printer was unable to complete the update

Hi mrgatwork,

What was the Internal and external DNS that you have tried? In the printer EWS page which we open with printer IP, under network protocols select the option IPv4. Then for Manual DNS address try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

If you still have same issue, try connecting the printer using ethernet cable and perform above two steps.

Our local DNS only.

Our Local DNS and ISP DNS

Our ISP DNS and Google DNS

Google DNS only, Its the current DNS setup.

All have failed.

I will retry this when I can tomorrow now that I have installed the firmware as of earlier.
