Upgrade LCD List ...I THINK I GOT IT!!!

Thanks for all your efforts & info. 

I went thru your list... until I got to "unplug / replug the printer."

I couldn't get hpqtra08.exe to open in the tray, so I started looking around at the other options I saw opened in the "bin."  I looked at "properties" to see what the available "applications" did. 

When I got to "hpiscapp" I found out it was a 'scan' program, clicked on it, and whoala!

I got my scan from within a program in the computer and not by scanning from the HP printer.

True, I should be able to scan from the printer, and maybe one day I'll mess with it, but for now... I have my document that I need.... You put me on the right track, and later, when I have time, I'll check it out more thoroughly.

I closed the Digital Imaging Monitor.  How and where are "Services.msc" and then what do I do?

cannot find in search or in the HP program file

I've been so frustrated over this update siruation for weeks now, but this worked perfectly, thank you so much for your help!! I am so glad there are tech savvy people, unlike myself, in this world!!!
